"Tonight" host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on Wednesday's show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests.
Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, antiestablishment comedian who's in the voice cast for the new animated film "Cars," were booked at separate times for the NBC late-nighter, a spokeswoman said Monday.
But the duo's meeting could produce serious fireworks for "Tonight," which usually limits its political fodder to Leno's bipartisan monologue jokes.
Coulter, author of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," has drawn fire for attacking the four New Jersey widows who pushed for an independent commission to investigate the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks in which their husbands died.
In her book, Coulter accuses the women of "reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
An appearance by Coulter on another NBC series, "Today," led to a prickly exchange with host Matt Lauer over her comments on the widows.
Also scheduled for "Tonight" Wednesday is Scottish singer and songwriter KT Tunstall
She'll tear Carlin apart. She actually has to improvise and debate spontaneously. He just regurgitates an act written in advance and rehearsed many times. He used to be pretty funny, now he's just a bitter, washed up, burned-out old leftist.
"He pushes the nuclear destruct buttons of the liberal mind simply by speaking, by breathing, by being. He and his kind cannot and will not be tolerated by the tolerance set."
Boy, you sure said it. It's almost as if that "hippy" generation from 1968 never got over whatever conflicts they had with their parents. "Dad" represented the "get a haircut" attitude they despised so much. "Dad" worked hard, put the kids through college, took them on vacations, and probably served in the military at some point, possibly in Korea or WWII. To that hippy mindset, he represented a reality that they never wanted to face.
The hippy generation dreamed of a fantasy world where everybody liked everybody, truth was whatever you thought it would be, and everyone would let you live in peace with your own personal illusions intact. To them freedom meant license, not responsibility. "Hey man, that's not my bag!"
Then "Dad" comes along and says, "Get a job, move out of my house, get a haircut, be responsible, get married, raise a family...."
Since that time, there's a sizeable part of that generation that never matured beyond that point. They became university professors, artists, musicians, politicians, civil rights lawyers, environmentalists, etc., but they never got over the fact that "Dad" was right. Life is hard, it takes work, things don't go the way you hoped they would, there are disappointments, and things that are downright unfair. Grown-ups move on because life moves on.
Then came Clinton. Remember them crossing the bridge to the 21st century hand in hand, with Barbara Streisand and that group. I told my wife then that the celebration was reminiscent of C.S. Lewis'"The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" when Aslan the lion was slain on the stone table.
The liberals gleefully danced for eight years, celebrating licentiousness, irresponsibility (read: irrational exberance) and their perverse brand of tolerance. After eight years, a "grown-up" president was elected and had to deal with the issues like the stock market bubble collapsing and some very mean guys who wanted to kill all the "tolerant" Americans. They had some serious illusions that evaporated in a short time. Their disillusionment is directed towards GWB.
That's why the left hates GWB with such a pathological fervor. He represents the some dark loathing to admit that "Dad" might just have been right in the end.
Yes he was ok with Miller but then Dennis Miller was not fiercely hated as Ann is by the left. Leno knows he has to do his share of kissing up to the Hollyweird left to keep working.
oh , I am staying up late tonight..Better make that TOMORROW night.Ann I will watch your appearance with baited breath... oh great slayer of the godless ones
Ann will be on the Tonight Show on WEDNESDAY (6/14) night.
I agree. I used to like Carlin. His ridiculing of political correctness was great. Now he's just a bitter, angry old man.
The Seven Dirty Words and the nosepicking routine are passe', just like Carlin in general.
A part of me thinks that Leno actually enjoys Miller's rants. Even secretly agreeing on a point or 2. They are old comedy club pals, too. I love when he has Miller on, and I miss Miller's show. Sigh. But Ann is not an old comedy pal, it will be interesting to see how that plays out. (Or did I miss it?)
Carlin is a strange case. I share (and often quote) his disgust at hyphenated self-indulgent types with "Pick a F%$@%ing name, lady.." In a wierd way, he's pretty conservative on at least some issues.
"This is going to be nasty. I will record for later"
I'll bet they are not on together. And, I'll wait for a recap tomorrow.

It really isn't that LONG -- yet -- so you can still read through the WHOLE THING rather QUICKLY.I re-sized most of the MARVELOUS (new!) photos of Ann posted there, so that it loads MUCH FASTER for (those folks on dial-up connections) than it did YESTEDAY. :o)
bttt
Dang..that is about the best post I have read in a LONG time.
You have the left pegged.
I pray that Pres. Bush is as aware of this as you are. He is not going to do anything overt to accuse the left of their deceit and complicity...any more than he did yesterday.
He respects the office of the President of the United States too much to get into flame wars with the libs, dems and MSM...but, he pretty much threw down the guantlet yesterday, IMHO>
Now it is up to Ann, and anyone else that loves this country to do whatever it takes to point your facts out.
Thank you for a wonderful, thought provoking post.
Speaking of Dennis Miller....one station in my area is going to start carrying Miller's new radio show at night.
I can't wait to hear it.
I am usually pretty much on board with Dennis' take on things...except last week when he gave Cindy Sheehan a pass on Bill O'Reilly's show.
He is more "kind" than I am ....I cut her some slack for a while, because of the death of her son...but, she has gone too far, IMHO>
