Bush Makes Surprise Visit to Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq — President Bush was meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki face to face on Tuesday after making a surprise visit to Iraq to bolster the newly-formed government and discuss the next steps in trying to shore up Iraqi security after three years of war.

"I appreciate you recognize the fact that the future of your country is in your hands," Bush told al-Maliki. "I appreciate your committment to representing the people of Iraq."

The president arrived in Baghdad at 8:08 a.m. EDT, or 4:08 p.m. local time. It was the second surprise visit he's made to the country in the past three years. Last time, Bush went to visit U.S. troops on Thanksgiving in 2003. At that time, his visit wasn't announced until after he left. This time, his arrival was reported after he touched down in Baghdad's Green Zone.

Only a handful of aides knew of the trip as the president had been speaking since last week about hosting a Camp David retreat where the president, his Cabinet and his national security and military team were supposed to hold a teleconference Tuesday with al-Maliki and his Cabinet. The two-day retreat provided cover for Bush to travel secretly and for al-Maliki and his Cabinet to arrive in the Green Zone for the meeting.

MSM comparing visit to LBJ in Vietnam.. saying it doesn't work and won't fix anything... Saying that the security situation is so bad that they couldn't even annouce his visit....

OMG We need to stand up against the media now before the LIBERAL PRAVDA wins the day and we all lose.

Thank you for the ping.

I hope his visit restores some of the Iraqi morale lost to the DBM's portrayal of the situation there.

Thanks for the pinh, M.

The MSM will be saying that Bush shouldn't be out of the country with the Hurricane Season's "Alberto" crashing into Flori-duh; he should be at FEMA directing the rescue operations himself. Bush bad! It's Bush's fault! Blah, blah, blah. I can hear it coming.

They seem to be a bit more sure footed at the WH these days. Can't help but think Tony Snow has something to do with the change.

Terror Links to Saddam's Inner Circle (newly revealed document)
FoxNews ^ | June 11, 2006 | Ray Robison

What was the relationship between Saddam Hussein's inner circle and Islamic terrorists? A newly released document captured in Iraq, but never before seen by the public, offers glimmers of new insight at the Pentagon's Foreign Military Studies Office Web site. The FMSO is a research and analysis center under the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command. This particular document mentions two men with similar names, each with ties to Pakistani religious schools known as madrassas, Jihad training camps, the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

This original translation by my translator-colleague, who goes by the nom de guerre of "Sammi," comes from a notebook kept by an Iraqi intelligence agent. It provides evidence of a cooperative, operational relationship agreed to at the highest levels of the Iraqi government and the Taliban. The notebook is lengthy and we will present it on the FOX News Web site in a series of postings. It deals extensively with meetings between Maulana Fazlur Rahman, an Al Qaeda/Taliban supporter, and Taha Yassin Ramadan, the former vice president of Iraq, and other unnamed Iraqi officials.
