WASHINGTON -- Violent crime in the U.S. is on the rise, posting its biggest one-year increase since 1991, the FBI said Monday.
Crime analysts said there is a resurgence in gang activity, particularly in the Midwest.
Some of the biggest jumps were in Milwaukee, St. Louis and other Midwestern cities. St. Louis in particular has seen an influx of East and West Coast gangs reaching out for new turf.
Gangs ''are branching out to smaller cities where there is still money to be made and turf to be ruled,'' says James Alan Fox of Northeastern University.
Nationwide, the increase in violent crime was modest, 2.5 percent. But that was the largest percentage increase since 1991.

Gang warefare, coming to a midwestern city near you. I wonder how much of this is "gang warefare Americans won't do".

And of course they will go after law-abiding Americans, especially law-abiding gun owners.

I saw a post in another thread on this, that claimed this was predicted by prison officials. We started getting tougher on violent criminals in the early 90s, and now those guys are getting out after having served 10-15 years.

Anyone get a quote from Pelosi or Murtha on this? Police need to pullout of American cities, too many casualties.

Hey...that's OK. We still have enough police power and resources to stop people from not wearing seat belts. They just had a seat belt checkpoint area yesterday in my area (Indianapolis), making me late for an appointment. (yes, I was wearing my seat belt)
I don't ever want to hear the police gripe that they don't have enough man power in the streets. Obviously they do if they care about this kind of ticky-tack stuff.

Bush's fault...
No it's Katrina & the N.O. exodus fault !!
Most of the murder increase in Houston & Dallas can be directly linked to the arrival of the residents of the fomrer Murder Capital of the USA !!!
