Bush hopes to paint town red on date with Topinka

Democratic blue state Illinois is flashing onto the radar of the Bush White House, with the governorship up for grabs and two high-profile House seats. The Sun-Times has learned President Bush is coming to Chicago July 7 for a fund-raiser for Judy Baar Topinka.

The White House political operation, run by Karl Rove -- who helped convince Topinka to run against Gov. Blagojevich -- is also closely monitoring two of the most-watched House races in the country, in the west and Northwest Suburban 6th and 8th congressional districts.

As always, Karl Rove and his charge have a hug and a squeeze for the biggest RINOs in the land.

We're going to dismantle the Democratic stranglehold over this state piece by piece. Illinois, which sends Dick Turban and Barack Hussein Obama to Washington, will have to go purple before it becomes red, however.

With Topinka, that would be more like "pink".

RINOs like her aren't going to lead the GOP to political nirvana. Never.

Illinois is already one of the most liberal states in the Union, and you want to purge the party of the 40% of people who voted for Topinka.

That's a recipe for failure my friend.

I'll see if I can fool someone into hiring you, just to spare the rest of us from your incessant spamming here.

Everyone's a RINO, and you keep threatening to shoot a hole in the lifeboat if you don't get 110% of your way. We got it. Like 10,000 posts ago.

I never said a word about purging anybody. Those are your words.

It's just that people like me won't vote for her, or anyone like her, ever.

If I wanted to vote for a leftist pro-abort lover of the homosexual agenda, I'd vote Dem. Or in this case, Republican.

Anyway, it's your state. It can hardly sink any lower politically, so have at it.

Lord help me, I just don't want
to vote for Topinka! I've said
for a long time that gradually
over the decades, the Democratic
hold on Illinois has been weakening.
You're right about the purple shade
gradually blending in. And, the
population is getting younger. The
old guard is dying off. I can only
console myself with the idea that
MAYBE the GOP has decided it's
necessary to get a foot in the
door, and supporting a RINO is the
way to go...for the moment.

The DNC aren't thrilled with their
boy Blagojevitch, either. So who
knows what tactics are swimming
through the Rep. Honchos' minds?!

IN Ev's defense on this point. Topinko has thrown a number of conservative candidates under the bus.
She did nothing to help Al Salvi in 96 and we have turbin durbin.
She did nothing as titular head of the opposition to salvage Jack Ryan, who was smeared with details of a messy divorce. The Tribune actually sued to have PRIVATE divorce proceedings opened.
She then did everything she could to insure Osama Obama got in, convincing Kamakazie Alan Keyes to run then stabbing him in the back.
She put up Super Rino corrine wood to muddy up the GOP governor primary in 2002, splitting the party and facilitating the election of blago. This has nothing to do with Jim Ryan's investigation into her office, right???sarc/off

She supported felon George Ryan to the end and is involved in her own Issues with shady deals in Springfield

Thus Illinois conservatives will stay home and let her go down. However, they will do what it takes to make sure McSweeney and Roskam will win. Rove and the President should focus on these two and abandon Topinko

And to which candidate did lend your campaign-winning ways during the primaries? Oh yes, I forgot, there wasn't a dollar to be made in Illinois for you this time around, so you didn't do much of anything here, did you?

Anyway, it's your state. It can hardly sink any lower politically, so have at it.

I believe that is diametrically opposed to what you and your little friend Keyes were saying in 2004 when you and he pledged to stay in Illinois and fight for conservative values no matter what the outcome of the election.

The only difference between then and now seems to be that there aren't checks coming in from Illinois now, so you don't have much reason to pretend to actually care about creating meaningful change.

"As always, Karl Rove and his charge have a hug and a squeeze for the biggest RINOs in the land."
Well, if nothing better is available or electable, then they have to do with what they have. Karl Rove is said to be extremely good at judging potential electability.

ROFL! Hey EV, it doesn't matter. Even if she wins, Topinka will be facing corruption charges one way or another, as all Illinois Governors do.

Nice to see the Bush administration urinate more money away on RINO losers.

I live in Illinois and there is no way anyone in my extended family will vote for her. I'd rather lose the election than have Judy as Gov. She undercut the best Senator we've had in a long time, Peter Fitzgerald. She is a disgrace to the party and a huge liberal to boot.

Those 40% aren't going to vote for her in the general.

Might as well let Blagojevich keep the seat.
