Jealous guardians of high standards or just . . . jealous? There was a rare bit of consensus on tonight's Fox News Watch, as journalists from left and right came together to excoriate Ann Coulter for what they judged to be her money-motivated excesses in her latest opus, 'Godless: The Church of Liberalism'. The focus was on Coulter's controversial statements about the Jersey Girls - the 9/11 widows turned harsh Bush administration critics. Highlighted was this excerpt from Ann's book:
"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them . . . I have never seen people enjoying their husband's death so much."
Here's a sampling of statement's from the News Watch crew:
National Review editor Rich Lowry observed that those who publicly proclaim their outrage "might as well go to the bank, take out bags of money, and hand them to Ann Coulter. This is bait. They take it every single time. And Ann, no matter what you think of her, is a marketing genius."
Lefty Neal Gabler: "I blame anyone who puts this lunatic on their air or gives her a forum. If she were a 300-pound balding man, she would be just a crackpot."
Jim Pinkerton, columnist at Newsday and TCS: "I think she jumped the shark on this one. She went too far. She crossed the line. She's like a heroin addict. She's addicted to publicity and money. And eventually it destroys you."
Summed up Jon Scott, guest-hosting for Eric Burns "ka-ching, ka-ching."
Because when she does it, she gets a gazillion readers to laugh at the ridiculous liberals. That, as they say, is priceless.
I see you couldn't let it go without taking a shot at me and my "panties". I'm a "seasoned citizen" but I don't need "Depends" yet, but when the need arises I'll let you know and you can be the first to make fun of me for it.
You're doing just like the liberals: over-reacting.
I'm not even going to try and guess what your actual agenda is.
She could be as ugly as James Carville (if that is possible) and I would still appreciate her for having the the guts to stand up to liberal MSM interviewers and not cave in like way too many of our own conservatives.
We tried the "Mister Nice Guy" approach and it never worked. The liberals just interrupt and talk over conservatives on a regular basis and it gets old after a while.
This is exactly the same tactic that Michael Moore and other liberals do. I don't like it, I don't respect it. I don't need Ann to write vicious words for me to laugh at liberals. It's all about money and publicity, IMO. And I am sure this is exactly what she was hoping for, and she got it.
Billy? Is that you?
You fail to recognize that her humor, like the "harpy" comment, is a whole lot different that the liberals calling conservatives Nazis and Hitler...the list goes on.
She just pokes a little fun where it needs to be poked.
Some people can take a joke, but liberals seem unable.
Ann is wayyyy to smart and quick to ever jump the shark.
All the bed-wetting is making me go out and buy her book tomorrow!
So when Ann Coulter calls people names, it's just dandy, but when I do it it's not.
You still have not explained that situation.
Because whe she does it, it is with humor and it makes a penetrating point that homks off the libs. When you attempt it, it comes off like Oscar the Grouch and it really doesn't work.
Hey, my number one hero:
has the same problem.
Hey, some people can tell a joke and some can't without sounding bitter.
The libs have been fielding this kind of talk for years calling us Nazi's, Bush is Hitler, and That is just fine. Didn't hear very many complaints. And our spineless Republicans just let the libs roll over them on a regular basis like that.
Then someone from our midst comes up with a little backbone and a sense of humor (seems to be running low here tonight) and all of a sudden she's mean. You obviously have not read up on the Jersey Girls and what they did in the Kerry campaign...they had it freakin' coming!
The "harpy" comment was way out of line. A person can "poke" fun without being a jerk. I understand the point she was making, just don't like the way she expressed it.
So don't buy her book. She won't miss your not reading it. :o) BTW, I think Ann Coulter would be an absolute blast to hang out with. She gets on the nerves of people who deserve to have their nerves 'gotten on'. LOL
Ann Coulter might call names (and only mildly if at all) but thats not what stands out. The logic of her argument is unassailable and her intellect shines more brightly than anyone from Marx to Mailer.
The name calling is window dressing. I say shes more than earned it.
Annie has hit a real nerve, and the Left has to do everything it can to take her down.
I think you've hit on why some of our fellow FReepers are on a different track. Not all of us were able to watch or hear what they did. I would highly reccommend accessing, at least the audio or transcipt of what they did, before forming a permanent opinion about Ann's description.
It was like a group of Cindy Sheehans wanting to get publicity and mega-bucks and face-time on cable TV. (they collected $$$ big time)
I thought she went too easy on them.
"You obviously have not read up on the Jersey Girls and what they did in the Kerry campaign..."
I am very familiar with the Jersey Girls and their agenda, I live in N.Y. I know of families who have lost loved ones on 9/11. I am informed, capt. norm
Next week I will be attending a charity walk/run in in memory of a NYC Firefighter who lost his life on 9/11. You are obviously a Coulter fan.
I won't
And the fact that the "Jersey Girls" have perverted this whole thing doesn't bother you, but Ann Coulter telling the hard truth about it does?
You're one of those 'last word' types, aren't you. ROFL!
Then please point out to me exactly what Ann said that was untrue...and I do mean exactly.
You see, I get the idea you haven't read the book, and are going by what you've heard about it...and most of what we hear is through the liberal MSM.
That's part of it. The rest is simple jealousy. Some people have to put others down in order to feel better about themselves. :o) Too bad for them that Ann Coulter is confident enough to handle it or she wouldn't have written the words in the first place.
