Officials vow changes after Hank III gets raw at concert

SOLANA BEACH – An annual fun-filled fiesta quickly turned into a fiasco Sunday when entertainer Hank Williams III spewed profanities from the stage and encouraged slam dancing that sheriff's deputies tried to stop for fear of massive injuries.

Yesterday, city officials were still recovering from the debacle, which happened at the end of the two-day Fiesta del Sol.

The Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce produces the annual fiesta that features live music, arts and crafts, children's rides and international food.

The singer, grandson of legendary country star Hank Williams, is known for his hard-driving songs and off-color language. He was paid $5,000 to perform and was a surprise headliner addition, Ott said.

Ott, who was at the event, said Hank III encouraged 40 to 50 fans to form a mosh pit – in which dancers jostle and shove one another – that deputies feared would lead to injuries. About 10 percent of the packed audience of 3,000 to 4,000 people were children, adding to the concern, Ott and organizers said.

When a security guard escorted a fan from the moshing hot spot and deputies confiscated cans of beer from the crowd, Hank III got angry and the crowd got agitated.

One of his singers jumped into the crowd and some in the crowd tried to jump onto the stage.

Herzberg said yesterday in a telephone interview. “This was one time for the fiesta to make an impact so our children can hear and see music.

“I talked to his agent. He had assured me he would sing country music,” Herzberg said. “He put on a great show, but he used the 'f' word too much. He was trying to create a frenzy.”

Well, 'Are you ready for some fiesta', doesn't have the right ring to it.

I'm old enough to remember Bill Cosby in his prime - he was hilarious, and didn't need to resort to gutter and toilet language.

Who gives a shit if Hank III uses profanity? And if people want to "slam dance", then let 'em.

It's his father, HANK WILLIAMS, JR., who's doing the Hannity concert.

Yes - good on ya

Yeah, he is. His C/W music is more traditional than his dad's. More in the Hank Sr. vein. He does have a hardcore band called Assjack, however, that remains unsigned.

Tater and Larry the Cable Guy are funny, but they've both gone over the top. I'm old enough to remember Bill Cosby in his prime - he was hilarious, and didn't need to resort to gutter and toilet language.

You think Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White are over the top?!?!? I'll take them any day over that commie, hate whitey Cosby

This is my idea of country music:

Five Dollar Bill

CHORUS:
I wrote my new song on a five dollar bill
But I won't be able to sing it until
I get hot on the trail for to pick up the track
Of the dirty little thief and get my five bucks back

I first got the five dollars from a Montana man
When he come across the line with a pistol in his hand
He said gimme all your money but I got to his first
And I took his Colts too and the whole first verse

You see you couldn't buy liquor in the States back then
So we saddled up the ponies and we loaded up the gin
Rode underneath the shadow of the grande Old Chief
To git some northern Rocky Mountain kinda tax relief

You couldn't count on the cattle when the market got down
And the veterinary bills to the doctor in town
Both kids needed shoes and they had to get fed
And a big old bank lien was over my head

CHORUS

They wouldn't stop talking about Canadian rye
Bouquet and the palate and it's crisp and it's dry
In a Seagrams bottle, tasted mighty top shelf
I said "well, thank you very much, sir, I cooked it myself"

Of course, that didn't wash with the boys down south
Judging by the stream of color coming out of their mouth
Though I can't figure why, cuz from where I stood
It got 'em just as damn drunk as any store bought would

CHORUS

Well, he come stormin' cross the border with six or eight guys
Some damn fool saw fit to deputize
But there weren't no sheriff nor a marshall in sight
I guess the lawman was up drinkin' whiskey all night

He said gimme all your money but I got to his first
And I took his Colts too and the whole third verse
But he picked my back pocket; worked the five bucks loose
I had tucked in behind a can a Copenhagen snoose

CHORUS

The dirty little double dealing, son-of-a-gun-of-a song stealin', chicken eatin' thief
And get my five bucks back

His wife has indeed made inflammatory comments about white people, I'm not aware that Bill Cosby himself has. Please elaborate.

He has spoken out quite eloquently about the self-destruction in the black community.

who is making people laugh without the filth?

Sinbad, that's who. Saw him in Vegas. So funny, my sides hurt, & not ONE bad word - not ONE risque joke. True comedy!

Cosby still associates with Sharpton and Jackson all the time. He appears with them and makes speeches with them. He has not disassociated from them, nor them from him at all.

I'm sorry, that's the Corb Lund band. They are from Alberta and they sing about cowboys and oil and horses. Real western music.

And he's a good picker as well. Check 'em out!

They're one of the handful of current country bands I enjoy. I prefer ole-timey stuff, bluegrass and Hank Williams Sr. -- "front porch" music.

Ron White has a new book out now. I hear it's quite funny, but I havent gotten my hands on it yet.

Larry is very funny, as are Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. Ron White has an attitude like I'd like to be able to turn off and on at will.

He's got a lot of talent.

They are more fun than watching midgets run track.8-)

Larry the Cable Guy is the funniest comedian out there, and an outspoken conservative. He said once during an appearance on Hannity and Colmes, "Im so conservative, I think O'Reilley is a commie". Just read his book, it is very funny. And Ron White? What can be said? He is just a full-out PISSER! Hysterical!

Comment:

It probably wouldn't matter to you judging by you immature vulgar comment.

It dose matter to most moral adults, especially when it was billed as a family country and western concert.

It matters even more because there were several hundred children in attendance.

Of course most liberal morons always argue they have the right to say what ever they want whether it is in good taste or not.

Hank III probably feels like he needs to use lots of profanity because he believes his lack of talent will not impress his audience.

I just love Sinbad! I especially love his movies...he makes good clean comedy. This is what I want and this is something I would pay big bucks for, so that my husband, children, and grandchild could go see a comedy show and be entertained and laugh with no discomfort.

I miss the comedy of Red Skelton and Jackie Gleason. I miss the time when I sat in front of the TV with my mom and dad, and sisters and brothers and watched Lucy and Desi or Cleo the Basset Hound or even, Adams Family and Bewitched.

How about McHale's Navy for laughs? I loved Capt. Binghampton and McHale and Tim Conway. Not hip, not cool, just plain funny. There was no onus back then about making a comedy about war, and so much of that show was achingly funny. BRING IT BACK AND CANCEL MYSPACE.COM Families used to know how to be together and laugh.
