So now the invaders want to tell PRIVATELY OWNED BUSINESSES how they are supposed to operate? Surely the ACLU will step in to tell the owner that in America he has no civil right to run his business the way he pleases. Ironic.

Well, when I was visiting in Mexico, I ordered in English. I'm not sure a retail outlet should be alienating customers. But I suppose there are going to be Soup Nazis and they'll survive. I'm just more interested in making money. But that's just me.

These dolts never seem to realize that their "progressive" agenda-driven nonsense is a two way street. They're completely at sea on the concept of legal precedent and equal protection. If they're successful in forcing this business into taking sandwich orders in Spanish, then Hispanic owned businesses can and will be forced into serving English speakers, in English.

Does that now measn that the government will mandate that the staff be bi-lingual?

Juntos, a Hispanic neighborhood organization, said it plans to send people to Geno's to try to order in Spanish and may pursue court action, depending on what happens. Would they have a problem with an a**-kicking?

The Geno's Steaks guy was on TV this morning and showed what people were up in arms about.
On the front window, where you order the Philly cheese steaks, he has one of those regular "patriotic" signs with the flag and I think an eagle on it, which says something like "This is America. Please speak English."
Just below that, he has another of those standard signs that says "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone ..."
Some people decided to make a leap of judgment and put the two together as a "cause and effect" statement. They *inferred* that if you didn't speak English, you would be refused service.
The owner said that's not the case at all. (He's 2nd generation Italian.)
As many people pointed out in the TV segment - when you order your cheese steak with CheezWhiz, which is the *best* way, you say, "Whiz With." It's just a local idiom that they have adopted humorously. They love to initiate tourists (I have been) by instructing them about the "Whiz With" statement.
And if *that's* English, I suppose the naysayers can just kiss my cheez grits casserole!

"bush" already mandated, vis the FCC (Colin Powell's son) that the cable companies etc carry at least two Spanish Channels. I PAY FOR THOSE CHANNELS!. Carry what they want, but why am I forced into paying for someone else's TV? Seems this is a TAX on English Speaking Americans; therefore it should be deductible on F 1040. Any one got a citation to permit such a deduction?

I posted this to another thread but it also concerns this thread as well.
Just got this in an email:
CHEAP LABOR
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage
Consumers don't want expensive produce
Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs
But the bottom line is cheap labor
The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie
~ there is no such thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children.
He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour.
At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax,
yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return,
he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent
He qualifies for food stamps
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay)
health care
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school
He requires bilingual teachers and books
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled,
they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare.
All of this is at that taxpayers expense.
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life
insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins
and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to
$30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour
Left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime,
graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor?
YEAH RIGHT!
Wake up people!

There needs to be more of this.
In fact, ignore them when they speak anything other than English. You aren't required to take orders in a language you don't speak.

all this is really getting ridiculous. This is the USA and English is the language of the USA and if a private business wants to enforce English-only, then that's their right.
This is just a sample of what this country would be like if it were overrun with millions and millions of "legalized" illegals. American Citizens would have to kow-tow to these people for everything! and they'd be backed-up by lawyers and traitor government bureaucrats.

The invaders would be ill-advised to take this to the courts---what with public opinion running against them in high numbers.
This will further undermine their standing. and will reinforce that to the invaders the US Constitution, our laws ---- and the safety and security of Americans ---- just doesn't fit into the Latino reconquista agenda.
According to their own words and signage at the infamous street rallies, they are lying in wait to takeover the US government with the vote---or by violence, if necessary.
They are using Third World revolutionary tactics to divide and conqueur---looking to establish on our shores a permanent Spanish-speaking sub-culture, separate and apart from American culture, with loyalty to Mexico, that they will install by usurping the US governemnt.

PHILADELPHIA -- Bistec con queso? Not at Geno's Steaks. An English-only ordering policy has thrust one of Philadelphia's best-known cheesesteak joints into the national immigration debate............ has posted small signs telling customers, ``This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING `SPEAK ENGLISH.' "........... Juntos, a Hispanic neighborhood organization, said it plans to send people to Geno's to try to order in Spanish and may pursue court action, depending on what happens. Recently I went to a "Checkers" burger joint. I ordered two cheeseburgers, and a large soda and a small vanilla shake. And that was it. The person taking my order was a hispanic who could barely speak english. They gave me my order wrong. Instead of plain cheeseburgers, they gave me chili cheeseburgers (I hate chili cheeseburgers), fries (I hate their fries), and a chocolate shake. I pointed out the mistake. The girl apologized. She came back with two cheeseburgers....with the fries and the chocolate shake intact. Again, I pointed out their mistake. She turned to her manager, another Hispanic who could barely speak english, spoke to the manager in spanish. Who in turn finally got my order right. Took the fries back, and exchanged my chocolate shake for the vanilla I wanted. BUT one more mistake....they had overcharged me due to the unwanted fries. I pointed out this discrepancy, and the cashier gave mer a dollar back. I'm sure I was owed more than a dollar (a large fries certainly cost more than one dollar). But rather than try to go through the trouble of getting back what I was owed, I decided to get the hell out of there. I was tired of their mistakes. I haven't come back since then.
I wonder if I have a case.

This is an update to this very old thread. I received a package in the mail today from Joey Vento. Inside was a letter thanking me for my support. He said that the response was overwhelming and that he was amazed that so many people agreed with his thinking. He is responding to everyone who wrote to him.
The big surprise was "a small token of my appreciation to you for taking the time to let me know that you are behind me"...a tee shirt with the words I AM AN AMERICAN...I ORDER IN ENGLISH on the front, and the logo of his restaurant on the back.
I sent the note on June 9, he is working his way through all of the mail.
Cool guy!!
