PHILADELPHIA -- Bistec con queso? Not at Geno's Steaks.
An English-only ordering policy has thrust one of Philadelphia's best-known cheesesteak joints into the national immigration debate............
has posted small signs telling customers, ``This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING `SPEAK ENGLISH.' "...........
Juntos, a Hispanic neighborhood organization, said it plans to send people to Geno's to try to order in Spanish and may pursue court action, depending on what happens.

I completely agree. English does need to be the official language. I just don't see how this has anything to do with ordering a food in a sandwich shop.
And once again, for the record, even though I think that the owner is being pathetic for implementing this policy, I agree that he has every right in the world to do this and as much as I think he is dumb for doing this, it is just as dumb for people to want to sue him for it.
Well if they sue this business for not speaking Spanish, then can we sue a businees in the US where no one speaks English? I know of several in my area.
I guess my point about FULLY partaking of the U.S. experience was not completely understood.
Short time visitors cannot FULLY partake of the American experience, as they are not attempting to glean the rights and benefits of citizenship.
They are not trying to vote, get their kids a free education and medical care, collect SS and welfare, take Americans jobs, etc.
They are here for a relatively short time. To do business or vacation, unless injured or othjerwise delayed, they will conduct their legitimate business and go home on time.
Unlike the illegal invaders.
Agreed. I will not for one second argue that people who are here permanently shouldn't be forced to learn English.
Good Job!! Don't forget he doesn't have to save for the kid's college- many states will pay for most of that too.
See my post #54.

We're on the same sheet. I'm guessin' that the owner has simply had enough and this is his way of making a statement. I'm sure that losing any Hispanic customers isn't going to break him. At some point someone has to stand up in one capacity or another. W ain't doin' it. The rest of the government isn't either. Few with the power to make the change are. It should highlight the depth and breadth of the problem already however.
Pulling your leg, hopefully ONLY your leg.

They can claim it places an extra work burden on the order takers (which it would).
Maybe THAT will shut the crybabies up.
well I would so net effect zero on his bottom line and with 85% of the Us population agreeing with tougher immigration policy it is the Smart thing to do. So like I said it may actually INCREASE his sales.
This will further undermine their standing. and will reinforce that to the invaders the US Constitution, our laws ---- and the safety and security of Americans ---- just doesn't fit into the Latino reconquista agenda.
According to their own words and signage at the infamous street rallies, they are lying in wait to takeover the US government with the vote---or by violence, if necessary.
They are using Third World revolutionary tactics to divide and conqueur---looking to establish on our shores a permanent Spanish-speaking sub-culture, separate and apart from American culture, with loyalty to Mexico, that they will install by usurping the US governemnt.
So, the courts can govern?
DITTO that.
Recently I went to a "Checkers" burger joint. I ordered two cheeseburgers, and a large soda and a small vanilla shake. And that was it. The person taking my order was a hispanic who could barely speak english. They gave me my order wrong. Instead of plain cheeseburgers, they gave me chili cheeseburgers (I hate chili cheeseburgers), fries (I hate their fries), and a chocolate shake. I pointed out the mistake. The girl apologized. She came back with two cheeseburgers....with the fries and the chocolate shake intact. Again, I pointed out their mistake. She turned to her manager, another Hispanic who could barely speak english, spoke to the manager in spanish. Who in turn finally got my order right. Took the fries back, and exchanged my chocolate shake for the vanilla I wanted. BUT one more mistake....they had overcharged me due to the unwanted fries. I pointed out this discrepancy, and the cashier gave mer a dollar back. I'm sure I was owed more than a dollar (a large fries certainly cost more than one dollar). But rather than try to go through the trouble of getting back what I was owed, I decided to get the hell out of there. I was tired of their mistakes. I haven't come back since then.
I wonder if I have a case.
Me no speaka Russian.
I live in the bay area, it's nearly impossible for me to get food out anymore. No one speak english or they barely do!? It's to the point were I just make my own food 95% of the time, and only on rare occasions do I go out and eat.
This is what open border nuts want!? A place where no one understands each other and they don't interact because they can't....yeah!
the congress passes the laws the president enforces the law and the courts interpret the laws based on the Constitution. therefore if the courts say a law is unconstitutional it doesn't matter what the 'people' or the lawmakers want nor the president. If the people, lawmakers, president don't like it they can pass Constitutional amendments. So yes they govern with the same power as the other two branches.
