June 9, 2006: On May 7th King Abdallah declared that al Qaeda had been "defeated" in Saudi Arabia. Saudi security authorities reported that clashes since May of 2003 had resulted in the deaths of about 150 Saudi and foreign personnel, as well as at least 120 confirmed al Qaeda operatives. There have been thousands of arrests, and several hundred terror suspects are believed still under arrest. No official figures were given for persons detained. But al Qaeda was never a major threat to the Saudi monarchy.
Many, if not most, Saudis want changes in the way the kingdom is run. But this is not easily done. King Adballah has been pressing for a modest easing of restrictions on the press, but is being opposed by more conservative members of the Royal Family, and many religious leaders. The conservatives fear that easing press restrictions will lead to widespread criticism of the regime. They're right, of course. But continuing restrictions will only make the country's internal problems worse, by providing critics with no options but to join radical movements. This will lead to more terrorism.

Everyone in Saudi Arabia is dead? When did this happen?

Well, I'm glad that "terrorism fad" is over. Can someone pass the pie?
I thought Baghdad Bob was in Dubai or something.
LOL! ~snicker~
Just the ones that want to attack the Royal Family. I'm sure they left plenty of jew and crusader haters. Bringem on! Its more fun when we exterminate these ragheaded mujis.
I'm surprised he's not on some comedy tour in Vegas.
It's a positive thing that the King is making this declaration right now. Al Qaeda is looking more like a rickety sinking ship than a glorious jihadist brigade these days, and that's got to put a damper on their recruiting, and even on the inclination of established members to keep secrets and blow themselves up on command. Zarqawi killed by the Americans, with Iraqi leaders and citizens cheering mightily, and Jordan bragging about how much they helped, and now the King of Saudi Arabia is announcing that al-Qaeda has been defeated in his country. Nice.
Ruling Saudi Arabia is like herding snakes. The trick is to keep them looking away from you. If one of them turns around and comes your way, you have to either turn him or cut off his head right now.
Thats what is going on right now. The snakes who turn on their snakeherder are being dealt with.
ROFLMAO!!!
