NJ assemblywomen call for boycott of new Coulter book

TRENTON, N.J. - Commentator Ann Coulter's incendiary words about outspoken 9/11 widows have led two state lawmakers to calls for a boycott of her book in the widows' home state of New Jersey.

Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley, D-Hudson, and Linda Stender, D-Union, on Thursday called on New Jerseyans to stop buying the book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," and for retailers in the state to stop selling it.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books. By making these claims, she proved herself worse than those she is attempting to vilify - she is a leach trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others," the two assemblywomen said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Crown Forum, the publisher of Coulter's book, did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday.

In her new book, Coulter writes that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

The comments drew criticism Wednesday from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who said the book should be called "Heartless," and New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, who said he was stunned by the remarks.

Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show and stuck by her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."

Her criticism was aimed at four New Jersey women she dubbed "The Witches of East Brunswick," after the town where two of them live.

The women - Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg and Patty Casazza - have spent the years since the 2001 terror attacks supporting an independent commission to examine government failures before the attack. During the 2004 presidential race, they endorsed Democrat John Kerry.

You seem to be engaging in the same activity you criticize her for doing.

So why do you object? It doesn't bother you when Coulter speculates.

She loves GW. Ask her.

But she thinks he's a drunk. So, she sees him as a loveable drunk, even though he doesn't drink.

Got it.

I don't know what you're trying to say. It is most certainly not complex to have a political disagreement with somebody without getting personal. Every dummy knows when that is happening, just as they know when somebody is attacking somebody else.

BINGO! The skinny Bones, harpy chick writes a book and sinkspur attacks her personally.

"Pot, may I introduce kettle. Kettle, Pot." Have fun you two.

Not only were these women willing to exploit the death of their husbands but they were willing to abandon their infant children to caretakers so they could bask in the limelight of Chris Matthews and his ilk.

There is something profoundly wrong with that picture, IMO.

"and their dead husbands "

Ann attacked their dead husbands?
News to me.
Where was that at?

As for these 4 witches, they are fair game.
You enter politics, launch attacks ads, accuse the President of being a murderer and worse, and you are gonna get hit from all corners with everything we got.
And a darn good thing too.

I realize what you are saying, but instead of making points and sticking to that, you are still picking on HER. Her looks, now she's a harpy, made some comments further up thread about her sexuality...and now saying she couldn't get a man on a bet.

I'm doing EXACTLY what Coulter does. You applaud when she does it, and hate it when I do it.

Strive for consistency. You won't feel so conflicted.

Disgusting people are deserving of disgusting comments.

She's ticking off the very people that need to be ticked off.

Many on the Left, and a few on the Right, have tried over the years to disparage, belittle, maim (politically!) and destroy this woman and her works, yet she remains totally unrepentant and unbowed.

In today's Culture Wars, you don't "make nice" with the cretins on the left - you devour them before they can devour you. In terms of the Darwinist nihilists, it's Survival of the Fittest.

This imbroglio will pass, and Ann will continue on to the next issue, unfettered and unaffected, ever ready to throw out another piece of red meat that the Liberal swine will be only too eager (and sloppy) to take.

Man, I love watching this woman at work!

Well, maybe they should get a little backlash; I've borrowed some of the Freepers' comments on this thread and composed this letter to Ms. Stender.

Dear Ms. Stender;

I see that you have called for a National boycott of Ann Coulter's new book based on parts of it with which you personally do not agree. How delightfully leftist of you! Well, I’m “National” and “legal”, and I’ve got a reply for you.

What happened to freedom of speech and freedom of expression you "progressives" are usually so crazy about? What's next, a good ol' nazi book burning? Oh, but you folks probably have some environmental law against that too, so we’ll just call what you’re doing a “virtual book burning”. Would that still be a “hate crime”?

Oh, but I digress…

Ann Coulter said what needs to be said; these women to whom she refers, are making the unfortunate deaths of their family members into political foray - much like Cindy Sheehan has done. Nobody feels sorry for those types of people, that is, except those trying to support their political agenda - like you and Ms Quigley for instance.

Say, where was all of your outrage at the protestors showing up at Veterans' funerals and disrupting the services? Did you feel sorry enough for the relatives of those deceased to speak out on their behalf? No, I didn’t think so. The liberal hypocrisy knows no bounds.

What if…just what if, we took your story, and replaced the name "Ann Coulter" with "Dixie Chicks", and called for a “boycott” of their records? Well, you and your liberal media friends would have a coronary over the “unfairness” and “rights violations” of those little “darlings”...now wouldn't you?

Ya know, I usually wait for the paperback version, but now that I’ve heard the latest diatribe from your office and your cohorts...I am going to buy the hardback edition; in fact, I’m going to buy two...one for me, and one as a gift to my favorite liberal. Maybe I should send you a copy, you could actually read it and then your comments would be IN context…what a concept for a lib.

Oh and, Ann is doing OK with, or without, the sale of this book. The really funny part of all this is, you’ve done her book sales more good than a million dollar ad campaign could ever do.

Think (I know it’s a hard concept for lefties, but try), think about it for a second...liberals would have never bought it anyway, and now that you’ve let all of the conservatives know how much it gnaws at you, they'll be out in droves to buy this one. I’m sure Ann will worry about your boycott all the way to the bank.

I have to close now, I’m laughing so hard the tears are blurring my vision.

FrankR

Thanks to all the Freepers who gave me the inspiration.

"and those who were on the fence will now like them because of Coulter's meanness"

Not after they have read Ann's book (and it's selling like hot cakes)
These 4 harpies ARE really nasty.

The publisher is doing cartwheels right now.

And conservatives should be doing the same. The more publicity she gets for the Jersey Girl remarks, the more the issue of the Dems using untouchable victims as spokespeople gets publicized.

Even if you don't agree with everything in the book, she is making our points with brilliance and style. So Einstein had a messy studio. Who cares? We actually like that about him.

Everyone loves to attack a big target.

And your reply to that is the tired, old "she can't get a man on a bet" whine ,that inadequate men usually throw at women they feel inferior to?

I'm not attracted to women who might be lesbos or harpies. Besides, Bones doesn't hold a candle to the woman I've been married to for 28 years.

Now, go ahead and attack my wife to defend a woman who wouldn't give you the time of day.

LOL...sinkspur, I was laughing at what you said in an earlier post:

I don't know what you're trying to say. It is most certainly not complex to have a political disagreement with somebody without getting personal. Every dummy knows when that is happening, just as they know when somebody is attacking somebody else.

By that, I assumed you meant that YOU were capable of having such a political disagreement without getting personal. Then I read your many posts degrading Ann Coulter for her looks, etc.

My bad.

The funny thing is, I'm not a huge fan of her writings. Great points at times, but kinda lightweight at others. But I like to see that we have a bombthrower on our side that can fight in the gutter with the libs, cause that's what they do.

And the sad thing is, her comment will likely win the Jersey Girls another round of air-time on "Hardball."

Yeah, so? Who cares? All that means is all 7 regular viewers of that show will see them.

And this concerns you?
