NJ assemblywomen call for boycott of new Coulter book

TRENTON, N.J. - Commentator Ann Coulter's incendiary words about outspoken 9/11 widows have led two state lawmakers to calls for a boycott of her book in the widows' home state of New Jersey.

Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley, D-Hudson, and Linda Stender, D-Union, on Thursday called on New Jerseyans to stop buying the book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," and for retailers in the state to stop selling it.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books. By making these claims, she proved herself worse than those she is attempting to vilify - she is a leach trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others," the two assemblywomen said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Crown Forum, the publisher of Coulter's book, did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday.

In her new book, Coulter writes that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

The comments drew criticism Wednesday from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who said the book should be called "Heartless," and New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, who said he was stunned by the remarks.

Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show and stuck by her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."

Her criticism was aimed at four New Jersey women she dubbed "The Witches of East Brunswick," after the town where two of them live.

The women - Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg and Patty Casazza - have spent the years since the 2001 terror attacks supporting an independent commission to examine government failures before the attack. During the 2004 presidential race, they endorsed Democrat John Kerry.

Exactly. Invade them, convert them, and kill their leaders.

Sorry, to me, that is funny. BECAUSE is it so absurd.

She had no reason to speculate about the status of their marriages or what their dead husbands might or might not have done when she could simply have taken them to task over their statements to the 9/11 commission.

Yes, she did. She's playing a game you obviously have NO insight into. You really need to read Rachel Simmons "Odd Girl Out."

Fine...then quit calling her Bones.

Would you prefer "Harpy"? Coulter calls the Jersey Girls harpies, so she must think it's an acceptable term.

Harpy it is.

so why make petty little high school comments regarding her body mass?

If Harpy was married, I'd speculate on the state of her marriage, since she thinks that's OK to do. But, alas, she can't seem to get a man on a bet.

Is it worse to comment on someone's looks, or to put words into the mouth of a widow's dead husband?

I'm just asking how you know why Ann isn't married, that's all.

Isn't that obvious? Ann is a nun ;o)

For the same reason Limbaugh's not married: ego.

"Can't see much difference between what they said and what Zarqawi said."

What if you throw in Zarqawi's actions as well? I mean, isn't there a little difference? Would you advocate dropping a couple of 500 pounders on the Girls as well, since they're so evil?

And just to save everybody the trouble, I disagree with every political opinion the Girls have ever expressed, I think they should be subjected to (appropriate) political criticism and if I was in their presence I would roundly boo them. However, I don't think they are in the league of evilness with Zarqawi and I don't think they should be killed.

Coulter certainly does not despise GWB.

He's just a drunk to her. At least, that's what she accused him of.

Sink, of course she's attacking the women. But she's not attacking their marriages. She's using rhetorical devices to force the dumbed down masses to THINK about these women as being similar to a Cindy Sheehan type.

We knew what Casey Sheehan stood for and that Cindy was trampling on all he stood for, using his sacrifice in Iraq to do so. For all we know, Ann points out, these women may be doing that to husbands that would scream at them to shut up and go away if they could. But they can't cause they're dead. So Ann just wants people to ask themselves some pointed questions about whether these women ought to be so sainted and so credible and so unassailable just because their husbands were terror victims and they decided to trash Bush.

But of course, most of all, as pissant acknowledges, she uses her rhetoric to sell her book.

I'm not asking your beliefs about why she's not married, I'm asking how you know. You seem to have personal knowledge of her.

You seem to be engaging in the same activity you criticize her for doing.

"Exactly. Invade them, convert them, and kill their leaders.

No need to be sorry. I thought it was funny as well, and provocative, but it was on point because it was part of a real discussion people were having: what are we going to do about this part of the world that is so dangerous and so full of madness.

This, I just don't get, for reasons previously expressed.

Okay that's it...you're a poopy butt!

LOL...c'mon! Did you read her quote? She said "Maybe they wanted to..."

I am sorry, I realize what you are saying, but instead of making points and sticking to that, you are still picking on HER. Her looks, now she's a harpy, made some comments further up thread about her sexuality...and now saying she couldn't get a man on a bet.

Do you have very thick glasses, held together with medical tape from a broken frame "incident"? Do you wear a pocket protector? Do you have severe acne and are only in your teens?

Because that is how you are coming across to me.

"But, alas, she can't seem to get a man on a bet"

That best you can do?
Sounds pretty lame to me.
When Ann insults you, you REALLY feel insulted, like how she hit liberals in the solar plexus yesterday and youall have been whining and screaming all day today.

And your reply to that is the tired, old "she can't get a man on a bet" whine ,that inadequate men usually throw at women they feel inferior to?
Pathetic!
And laughable.

I would love to see some GOPer suggest boycotting Algore's movie, just to see the MSM spring to Algore's defense.

So Ann just wants people to ask themselves some pointed questions about whether these women ought to be so sainted and so credible and so unassailable just because their husbands were terror victims and they decided to trash Bush.

And by attacking their marriages and their dead husbands she is accomplishing the exact opposite of what you say she intends. People who dislike them will still dislike them, those who like them will like them more, and those who were on the fence will now like them because of Coulter's meanness.

You're right about Coulter using her rhetoric to sell her book, which is just about the only thing she cares about in life.
