Could marriage debate do harm to Santorum?
PennLive.com ^ | 6/8/06 | BY BRETT LIEBERMAN

With the proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage being debated this week in the U.S. Senate, some GOP leaders worry it might hurt Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) but Republican Main Street Partnership head Sarah Chamberlain Resnick said staunch conservatives will remain loyal to Santorum, noting "It's a net zero if not a negative." A recent Patriot-News/WGAL-TV Keystone Poll found that 67 percent of conservatives said they support Santorum but state Democratic candidate Bob Casey leads in all polls. The Associated Press interviewed Santorum in 2003, who likened homosexuality to bestiality, incest and polygamy as a threat to society. Casey opposed gay marriage but does not support a constitutional ban, yet supports civil unions. Santorum spokesman Dan Ronayne said "He doesn't want to upset his liberal base but also doesn't want to show his true liberal colors to mainstream Pennsylvania voters."

I'd get a new spokesman...

That was Santorum's spokesman commenting on Casey. What did he say that was wrong?

Recent poll found that 67% of conservatives support Santorum but state Democratic candidate Bob Casey leads in all polls. Why is that? Uhh... for the same reason that if ANY Dem in an urban district garnered 67% black support, he would be behind? Not all Pennsylvanians are conservative (due to Philly and most of Pittsburgh). 0% of pro-abort liberals support Santorum. Casey's father's legacy is helping Casey the Lesser garner some Reagan Dem support.

The Associated Press interviewed Santorum in 2003, who likened homosexuality to bestiality, incest and polygamy as a threat to society.

What a misrepresentation of what Santorum said. He didn't liken homosexuality to bestiality or incest or polygamy. What he said was that the argument and basis the Supreme Court used to overturn Texas' sodomy law could also be used to overturn laws against bestiality or incest or polygamy. And he has been vindicated as there has already been one (unsuccessful so far) challenge to state laws against polygamy using the same logic and the Supreme Court Lawrence decision.

Bailey, are you also the author of the "report" you posted? If so, please respond to my post about your misrepresentation of Santorum's comments about the Supreme Court Lawrence decision.

Casey opposed gay marriage but does not support a constitutional ban, yet supports civil unions.

So basically, Casey is a liar. He wants court ordered homosexual marriage, but if he can't have that, he wants homosexual marriage by another name.

Bailey, I apologize for calling you a liar as I can now see that the author of the report was Brett Lieberman rather than you.

That said, it would be nice of you to comment on the article you posted and respond to those who have posted comments to you. Have a nice day.

That because 79% of brain-addled Pennsylvania Democrats believe that Bob Casey is actually his father, the dead former Governor.
