According to this article in the New York Times, Americans out in the heartland don't like the U.N., and its all the fault of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.
Said Mark Malloch Brown a Briton who is deputy to Secretary General Kofi Annan, there is "too much unchecked U.N.-bashing and stereotyping." He added:
"Much of the public discourse [about the U.N.] that reaches the U.S. heartland has been largely abandoned to its loudest detractors such as Rush Limbaugh and Fox News," he said.
Malloch Brown also took a swipe at US Ambassador John Bolton. As per the Times article:
"Mr. Malloch Brown did not mention Mr. Bolton by name, but he criticized the working strategy that many diplomats have associated with Mr. Bolton since his arrival last August. "Exacerbating matters is the widely held perception, even among many U.S. allies, that the U.S. tends to hold on to maximalist positions when it could be finding middle ground," Mr. Malloch Brown said."
If Malloch Brown is correct, sounds as if Rush and FNC are doing something right!
I found the UN to be a cesspool of corruption and rotting at the head ... all on my own.
I suggest at least moving UN HQ to a holler in the south.
I despised the UN before as an EVIL and CORRUPT institution. Now, I hate it as an EVIL and CORRUPT institution.

Well, it couldn't be that most Americans in the heartland cannot stand the idea of Syria, Iran, Libya and others like them being on a Human Rights Commission. Nor can we accept the constant Israel bashing by Arab dictatorships. And we all remember how the UN has done so little to promote liberty or fight the spread of terrorism or communism. It's basically a useless place.

People starving in Africa, White Farmers having their land stolen, Gulags in N Korea. Saddam throwing people into mulchers Iran building a Nuclear bomb Slavery in the Sudan, terrorists in Afghanistan, and the UN crying for some killers in gitmo.
The UN is useless. Just an excuse for a few UN diplomats to live and enjoy life in New York rather than in the crapholes they come from , and at US and Japan's expense.
I'm sure the Congo or Somalia would be more than happy to erradic.....er "host" the UN.
And it's not just the "heartland" who hates the U.N. I worked for 13 years in an organization with close ties to the U.N., lived half a block from its NY headquarters and in apartment building filled with U.N. employees. It is a sex-harassing, support staff-harassing, third world sewer. That being said, its cafeteria was nice.
This foriegn socialist is wrong, i've hated the UN since the day they invented it!

It's a communist organization, founded by communists, and the rules are written to give communists control in perputity.
The Canadians are learning about the UN as well. In this case a Canadian lay bleeding to death while UN peacekeepers took pictures of him in Haiti.

From talking to the Brits I know they don't appear to have any great love for the UN either.

The John Birch Society was right: Impeach Earl Warren, and get out of the U.N.
Too late for the former, but the latter is still valid...the sooner, the better.
