June 7, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Conservative rabble-rouser Ann Coulter created an uproar among 9/11 victims' families yesterday after she charged in her new book that a group of "self-obsessed" politically active widows are enjoying their husbands' deaths.
The razor-tongued blond polemicist made unflattering remarks about the high-profile widows who liked to call themselves the "Jersey girls." In Coulter's latest book, "Godless," she calls them "harpies" and the "Witches of East Brunswick."

I think there are many here who just don't understand Ann's acerbic sense of humor. And I think her humor permeates her writings and comments. It's a “poke-in-the-eye” style that is meant to be over-the-top, it begs comment.Exactly. She's a polemicist. Polemic is an art form, and Ann is the greatest living polemic writer, as far as I can tell. It is a total mistery to me why so many people can't seem to appreciate the intrinsic value of any good polemic, but that's how it is, sadly.
I love it!So do I. I really wonder if her critics don't get it intentionally, or if they really lack any taste for polemics. I guess we'll never find out.
Exactly. And there's an element of hypocrisy always, as we have nothing but praise and adoration for those widows and victims of 9-11 who are on ~our~ side. We'd be beside ourselves with outrage about anyone who said the same about Lisa Beamer.
It just never should be said, and I don't support anyone who talks that way, nor would I expect it would convert any hearts and minds... And that is the point of political speech, always. It's not about cheering our pretty little pet harpy, it's not about the high we feel on a good blasting rant, it's about convincing people.
BINGO. Bears repeating.
And I said there are too many to list. It's easier to list those who need to be in cages.
There was at least one relative who agreed with the President. I know there were more, but I only remember one, and that is because I listen to talk radio and post on FR - Debra Burlingame. Her brother Chip (or Chick) was one of the pilots of the plane that crashed into the Pentagon.
That we have to struggle just to remember one, proves your point.
I detest the media with a red hot loathing. Coulter called them out, and like the practice of throwing a rock into a pack of wolves, the wolf that howls is the wolf that was hit.
It depends. For entertainment purposes, it's hard to beat polemics. Especially after a rough day at the office. Better than boxing. For pursuading soccer moms to vote conservative...eh..not so much.
Smart .. Would'd happened too..
Coulter says what most don't have the horsepower to say but would..
In Not not nearly so elegant a way.. Creative disgust..
You forgot to add anglos to your list. Actually, "infidel" is far more accurate. Also, not all of us have a death wish and know darned well how much danger we're all in....it's getting those who HAVE the death wish to LISTEN that's so hard. I otherwise agree with (and understood) your post.
I got my copy a day early (pre-ordered on Amazon.com), along with Super Stretch's latest, "Strategery". Can't wait for the weekend to arrive, so I can read them both.
And by the way, as a general comment, how these media ho's can get all bent out of shape at President Bush for not stopping 9-11, and not direct any venom at the former administration's lack of action (except for finding the next person from whom to receive fallatio...that's a BJ, for those in Rio Linda) in fighting terrorism...never mind...I just answered my own question.
"In your face" commentary has worked on a select few for thousands of years.
If you don't want to make the comparison, then don't drag Christ into this. Coulter's "in your face" commentary is meant to pad her back pocket. She wins no converts with her rhetoric.
Yeah with lots of lurkers.. that don't utter a peep..
Upon hearing (proverbially) "Whats that smell, over and over again"..
Its on your shoes is the only answer.. We have NOW the best federal givernment money can buy..
Is there a transcript from AC's appearance with Matt Lower?
There ain't nothin on my shoes :~D
O.K.. { man I hate optimists, they crawl my nape }
Must go shower I feel dirty..
And you were convinced Pat Buchanan would someday be president.
Also, Jesus was not neccesarily trying to "convert" the Pharisees. Contrast his behavior toward the Pharisees to his demeanor around Mary Magdeline, or the adulturous woman, or the woman at the well. In fact, Christ's behavior in contrast to the finger-wagging, spittle throwing, "stone her" crowd was what melted their hearts and made them willing to die for him. He did not tolerate sin. But he changed hearts. Then the sinners didn't tolerate sin either.
It is quite a constructive study for both Christians and conservative politicians. Billy Graham is so beloved and timeless because he's NEVER deviated from preaching the gospel of "God loves you, no matter what you've done; turn to Him and live with Him forever." He could have railed against the decay of morals, or abortion, or any other societal ills. But he kept his message simple through the decades, and advanced the kingdom of God more than any other single person in the 20th century.

Ann's response: when they start flying planes into our buildings! Next question!
CLASSIC! This reminds me of a talk between Coulter and Jim Carrey (err, Peter Beinart), around the time that "How to talk to a Liberal" came out, and someone asked her what the purpose would be of profiling at airports (she was Middle Eastern...
and Ann said, "ummm...it would remove the fear of having my throat cut by boxcutters...it would reduce the threat of airplanes flying into buildings...must I go on? NEED I go on?"
