What remains to be seen, is if the Moorites will support the winners, or if they will play spoilers and hand control of the state to the Democrats
Most importantly -- Gay Marriage Amendment is winning overwhelmingly.
The gay marriage amendment is winning overwhelmingly with .15% of the vote counted. Of course, I don't expect that it will lose, though.
Pre-election polls had it passing with 75-80%.
Which is surprising...since it was worded in such a way that one would initially think a No vote was a vote against gay marriage.
I spent quite a while at the polls this morning attempting to convince some of the need for a YES.
I truly don't understand why the language on these Amendments can't be written in Plain Speak.
Do you or do you not want queers to be granted the right of marriage, one to the other, as man and wife, or man and man or...whatever?
Yes No
Circle one.
See how easy that was?
Man that is hard to look at.
I was really hoping that Darby character would win, that way the democrats would be even more of a sure loss than they already are in the attorney general's race.
Slooooowwwwww election returns an hour and a half after polls closed.
Exit polls are showing Moore losing.
Down here in Mobile we changed from the voting booth to paper ballots. Was this state wide? Does anyone know?
GE
The son of Mr. "Segregation Forever" was a loyal RAT office during the Reagan years and probably only "became" a Republican in the mid 90s because the Alabama Dem party imploded and he needed to "win".
Well Georgy, ya ain't winning tonite. Go back to the RAT party where ya belong!
I am disheartened that Tyson could actually lose that primary because he's been willing to remove black politicians from office when they abuse their power (It's the reason the race is this close, Joe Reed's organization didn't endorse Tyson because of the Thomas mess), other than that, it's a damn good night. The trial lawyers have lost and when trial lawyers lose, we all win.
Most of Alabama was using paper ballots. We only were forced to use them this year because of that stupid "Help America Vote Act". I personally liked the old machines just fine. However, I'm very happy with the local results in the primary, especially the Sheriff's and legislative races.
Actually, the Democrats aren't a sure loss in the Attorney General's race, because John Tyson will win Mobile County. In 2004, when Bush had his strongest coattails ever, John Tyson still got as many votes as the President. If that election had been in an off year, it would have been close to 70%. I have no problem defending my decision to cross party lines here because of John Tyson's record as our District Attorney. He has been unafraid to go after all the thugs and criminals in society, he's been more than willing to apply the death penalty, and what makes me support him for Attorney General, he's been willing to go after politicians who break the law. Granted, I would have liked to see them do prison time, but as it stands, they are out of office thanks to his efforts, and we're better off for it. Tyson will also perform better than is typical in Baldwin, many of them having ties to the city. The other reason I have no problem supporting Tyson for AG is that Riley will appoint his replacement as D.A, giving us a Republican D.A, which has been a rarity around here.

My 86 year old mother and 20 year old daughter (straight A student) went to the polls with me. Both initially misunderstood the wording of the Amendment and almost voted "No". You are so right OldSmaj, it was horribly worded. I suspect many of the "No" votes were mere misinterpretations.
