Non-establishment conservative to run for open seat in Maryland's 3rd district (activism alert!)

The House seat in the third district of Maryland was held by ultra liberal Ben Cardin for two decades. He is vacating the seat to run for Senate against Michael Steele. Due to a lack of a front runner for the Democrats and favorable redistricting for Republicans, this seat is possibly in play. There are several Republicans running for the nomination but only one conservative,RICK HOOVER. He deserves our support. Please go to rickhoover.org to donate.

Here is a sample of his platform.

I NEED TO HEAR FROM GOD FEARING MARYLANDERS WHO WANT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT! THANK YOU! Please donate online or send to

Hoover For Congress

Box 2160

Glen Burnie, MD 21060

Thank You.

HERE ARE MY CONCERNS FOR AMERICA

1. Absolute border security. No amnesty, no social security.

2. Limiting Federal spending and reducing wasteful spending.

3. Holding all elected officials accountable to legal and ethical standards.

4. Make tax breaks permanent and continue the incredible growth period under President Bush.

5. Preserve the sanctity of life and marriage by reducing access to abortion and defining marriage as existing only between a man and a woman.

6. Improve education with more programs like "No Child Left Behind" and reduce funding for the NEA.

7. The safety and security of the nation of Israel

THIS IS A COPY OF A SPEECH DELIVERED BY RICK HOOVER AT THE MARYLAND REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY.

NOT IN MY AMERICA!

I am a conservative. I was born a conservative, I was raised a conservative, I vote conservative. And I will die a conservative. I’m proud to be a conservative. I’m proud of my country’s high moral standards and I will not sacrifice them on the altar of liberal

idealism that is a hypocritical sham and a failure.

I love my liberal friends. I have to, to have God’s blessing. But their plans for big government and political aristocracy are wrong! When my liberal friends say we have to have legalized abortion to protect women and children, I say go ahead-you can have your legalized abortion-in another country, but not in my America. When my liberal friends say we need to be nice to homosexuals and give them special undeserved privileges and treat them like they were handicapped, I say go ahead-coddle up to homosexuals-but do it in another country, not in my America.

When my liberal friends say we need to keep raising taxes and increasing welfare to support all kinds of absurd government programs-I say go ahead-you can have your taxes and big government in another country-but not in my America. When my liberal friends say we must have free speech, but be careful not to say anything religious or conservative or teach that there are any absolute standards that govern right and wrong. I say go ahead-say what you want to-in another country, but not in my America.

This country was founded on the basis of life-which includes unborn babies, liberty-which includes free speech, and the pursuit of happiness-which means the government won’t be breathing down my neck, burdening me with excessive taxation and ‘advances’ that are morally repulsive. Such actions are tyranny. And I will not be subject to tyranny! To my liberal friends I say quit marching on the graves of my Founding Fathers with your anti-American, insensible efforts at changing America’s Constitution and what America stands for. Quit stomping on the blood of the Patriots who for 230 years have fought to make us free, while our enemies fought to make us slaves. Quit treating with contempt the patriotism of those who died for love of God and country while others died for hatred. Quit listening to wealthy idealists who aren’t willing to sacrifice the sweat of their brow or the time in their day to come to the aid of America in need!

We’ve seen the protesters, we’ve seen the draft dodgers, we’ve seen what they stand for-a weak America, bowing to other nations and regimes and incapable of defending herself. We’ve seen the 9/11’s and the hopes and aspirations of our enemies. We’ve seen it and we reject it! If that’s what you want, then go ahead, find it-somewhere else, but not in my America! If you want a new Constitution-then go find your own country and write one-but not in my America! If you want a country like the Netherlands which has dismantled marriage, which has rampant teen pregnancy and sexual diseases, where going to the hospital and receiving a terminal diagnosis may mean the termination of your life! If you want that kind of fear and oppression from your government then go ahead, have it in another country, but not in my America! We will continue to cling to these inalienable truths that men and women are responsible to their Creator to abide by His moral law!

America bows to no one, America honors no foreign law. America is sovereign and that’s the way it’s going to stay! You can have your unconstitutional principles, you can say that they will work better, you can believe that they are useful, but NOT IN MY AMERICA!

Due to a lack of a front runner for the Democrats and favorable redistricting for Republicans, this seat is possibly in play. Favorable redistricting? Isn't Maryland,by and large, dominated by leftists? Mikulski and Sarbanes are about the two biggest Stalinists in the Senate, aren't they?

I'd love to hear this explained!

He does realize that his America is filled with people who disagree with him, right?--this is the sort of speech that an activist or partisan should deliver, but the sort of speech that someone seeking public office should forgo in favour of a more inclusive message. I think the GOP has already written off this district if this is who they put forward.

Sorry. Any money donated and time spent on this campaign is money and time that is better spent on others. This seat will be won by a Democrat.

Maryland is indeed very Democrat. However, it is not inherently liberal. The reason why it is so heavily Dem. is because of the 28% black constituency. With that said, there are positive signs. Bob Ehrlich was elected gov. and Michael Steele does have a reasonable chance of winning the Senate seat.

As for the third district, before redistricting it voted 65% Gore 35% Bush. After redistricting it went 54% Kerry 45% Bush. This is already winnable for a Rep. Furthermore, EHRLICH WON this district in 2002. This in conjunction with the fact that there is no solid Dem. candidate, definately puts this district in play.

But I thought that redistricting was done by state legislatures. Is the Maryland state legislature liberal, conservative or something else?

I knew that MD has a Republican governor but that,IMO,doesn't mean anything.Massachusetts has had "Republican" governors for the last 16 years but has the most Marxist Congressional delegation of all and went for Gore *and* Kerry 65-35.

Hey Gay state conservative,

Here's the story. The Maryland legislature is indeed Marxist. This is exactly why they gerymandered the districts. There are 2 adjacent districts #2 and #3. #2 was held by the current Republican gov. while the 3rd was held by a dem. Ben Cardin. They made district 2 more liberal by dumping many Dems from district 3 into #2. They were successful and the 2nd went solid Dem.

However, in the process they made #3 noticably less Dem. At the time they never envisioned this seat opening up. Now that Paul Sarbanes is retiring from the Senate and Ben Cardin is attempting to win his seat, suddenly the third district is left open with a more favorable climate for Republicans. At the time it made sense to the Dems to gerymander in this manner because they netted a seat. However, they never predicted this unintended consequence.
