Due to a lack of a front runner for the Democrats and favorable redistricting for Republicans, this seat is possibly in play. Favorable redistricting? Isn't Maryland,by and large, dominated by leftists? Mikulski and Sarbanes are about the two biggest Stalinists in the Senate, aren't they?

I'd love to hear this explained!

Maryland is indeed very Democrat. However, it is not inherently liberal. The reason why it is so heavily Dem. is because of the 28% black constituency. With that said, there are positive signs. Bob Ehrlich was elected gov. and Michael Steele does have a reasonable chance of winning the Senate seat.

As for the third district, before redistricting it voted 65% Gore 35% Bush. After redistricting it went 54% Kerry 45% Bush. This is already winnable for a Rep. Furthermore, EHRLICH WON this district in 2002. This in conjunction with the fact that there is no solid Dem. candidate, definately puts this district in play.
