Amber Alert Issued For Lubbock Baby
KAMC TV ^ | 6/5/06

Posted on 06/05/2006 10:00:20 AM PDT by hispanarepublicana

An amber alert has been issued after a Lubbock police say a four-day old child was taken from her parents. Priscilla Nicole Maldonado was taken from her home around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the 2200 block of 46th Street by a woman who claimed she was a nurse.

Priscilla was born Wednesday at UMC. While at the hospital, a woman identifying herself as Lisa Stewart came by the room several times and checked on the baby and visited with the child`s mother, Erica Ysasaga. According to the mother, Stewart was wearing scrubs and gave the appearance of being either a nurse or a nurse`s aid.

On Sunday, the woman visited the mother and child at their home. Police say Stewart was holding Priscilla and walking outside with Erica. The mother was distracted by another child and turned to take care of that child. When she turned back, the suspect and Priscilla had disappeared.

Immediately after Erica realized that Priscilla and the woman was gone, she saw a white van and a red Pontiac Grand-Am leaving the area south on Avenue W from 46th Street. Police are unsure if the vehicle were involved, as they were the only vehicles in the area at the time.

Police say the suspect is a white female, 30-40 years of age, 5`3"-5`6", and 140-150 pounds. The woman has brownish/blond hair pulled back in a clip. Police say the woman was last seen wearing a red dress with yellow sunflowers. Police believe that Lisa Stewart may be an alias.

It is unknown at this time if the woman was an actual employee of UMC.

Anyone with any information on this incident is urged to call Crime Line at 741-1000 or Sgt. Scott Farmer with the Lubbock Police Department at 775-2793.

I think it just depends on what your family's always done. My family (grandmothers, mothers, aunts) would've hog-tied me if they'd heard I had that baby out in public sooner than 2 weeks. I was told it had to do with a baby's immune system needing to be fully developed, and let's face it, people are filthy.

Well, I always thought the dirtiest place to take them was the doctor's office! And, my family didn't live anywhere near us when I had my first baby, so there was no chance for them to hogtie me! ;)
I had to go out and get groceries and stuff, so I went. :)

Prayers up for the baby to be found and the kidnapper arrested, charged and convicted.

This Lubbock mother may be fortunate to be alive, if the kidnapper is a nutcase like that Lisa Montgomery a few years ago. She made friends with a pregnant woman, pretending to be interested in buying a dog of the kind the pregnant woman's family was breeding, then eventually went to their house and killed the woman, did a C-section on her and stole the baby because she had been lying to her husband about being pregnant. The baby survived.

Not long before that one, there was a similar case in Oklahoma where a nutjob befriended a pregnant woman and then killed her to get the baby - but she was only 6 months pregnant and the baby died. The perp took the dead baby to the hospital, saying it was hers.

Sheesh, maybe it's better to hope the baby was safely kidnapped by someone desparate to be a parent!

I hate these stories. Prayers for the baby's safety bump.

If you are a teenage mother or on medicaid, it is not unusual to have a nurse come to the house. They will usually visit to help with parenting skills, etc. Since there has been mention of a father being involved, I would have to guess she is young and single.

*adds to last post* University Medical Center spokesman Greg Bruce said the baby had been found and was being brought to the hospital. Bruce said the baby was fine. There were no immediate details on where the baby was found.

Police said the infant was found alone in a car seat beneath a carport in 104-degree weather. It was not clear how long she had been outside before authorities arrived. No other details at this time. This I learned in an email from my daughter.
