An amber alert has been issued after a Lubbock police say a four-day old child was taken from her parents. Priscilla Nicole Maldonado was taken from her home around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the 2200 block of 46th Street by a woman who claimed she was a nurse.
Priscilla was born Wednesday at UMC. While at the hospital, a woman identifying herself as Lisa Stewart came by the room several times and checked on the baby and visited with the child`s mother, Erica Ysasaga. According to the mother, Stewart was wearing scrubs and gave the appearance of being either a nurse or a nurse`s aid.
On Sunday, the woman visited the mother and child at their home. Police say Stewart was holding Priscilla and walking outside with Erica. The mother was distracted by another child and turned to take care of that child. When she turned back, the suspect and Priscilla had disappeared.
Immediately after Erica realized that Priscilla and the woman was gone, she saw a white van and a red Pontiac Grand-Am leaving the area south on Avenue W from 46th Street. Police are unsure if the vehicle were involved, as they were the only vehicles in the area at the time.
Police say the suspect is a white female, 30-40 years of age, 5`3"-5`6", and 140-150 pounds. The woman has brownish/blond hair pulled back in a clip. Police say the woman was last seen wearing a red dress with yellow sunflowers. Police believe that Lisa Stewart may be an alias.
It is unknown at this time if the woman was an actual employee of UMC.
Anyone with any information on this incident is urged to call Crime Line at 741-1000 or Sgt. Scott Farmer with the Lubbock Police Department at 775-2793.

Local news reports the hospital staff thought the woman was a friend of the mother. Sure, this unknown woman in hospital scrubs, looking every bit a nurse, is constantly going in and out of the room and the floor nurse doesn't bother asking questions???
(I ask because when I had my son at Paoli Memorial, here in PA, there were video cameras by the elevators, stairs and the entrance doors to the ward -- which you could nbot get through without showing ID.)
The child was abducted elswhere, but a good picture might help.
Prayers for the newborrn and her family. I can't imagine how awful...
In Maryland, it is routine to be contacted by a nurse a few days after delivery to how you and baby are doing. They always call first and, of course, you can decline if they offer to come out for a visit. They never just show up.
The "nurse" supposedly befriended the mother in the hospital and offered a previously owned baby swing, etc., and claimed she had a sister in the neighborhood or some such and would "drop it off" if she was in the neighborhood soon.
I personally don't think the mother is the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'm just worried about that baby.
yes they do
Not in Houston they don't.

Investigation continues in kidnapped infant case
Lubbock police continue to investigate the kidnapping of a 5-day-old baby girl.
Detectives believe the suspect planned the abduction for several days, posing as a nurse at University Medical Center to gain access to the family of Priscilla Nicole Maldonado.
An Amber Alert was issues for the baby's disappearance, the first issued by the Lubbock Police Department. A woman calling herself Lisa Steward approached the mother, Erica Ysasago several times in the at UMC after the baby was born, and on Sunday, when she took the child, according to the mother. The baby's father is Jesse Maldonado.
Priscilla was taken from her mother's home located on the 2200 block of 46th Street on Sunday at 1:10 p.m., according to police.
A woman fitting the suspect's description was arrested at Lubbock Heart Hospital on an unrelated charge Sunday night, Lt. Roy Bassett said. Police questioned the woman and have determined she was not involved with the kidnapping.
Another person of interest has not been identified at this time, Bassett said.
More information will be reported as it becomes available. People with information about the case are asked to call 741-1000.
Which is why this hospital now has a serious liability issue.
Prayers for the family and the baby.
Scarey if they do have the right woman, and no baby yet. I wonder if she took her to sell? Man, my prayers are with this family. How helpless they must feel.

I've been gathering bits and snips here and there around town, and it sounds like the lady they took in last night turned out to be cleared.
From what I've heard, she tried a number of ploys to get this baby--wanted it BAD, apparently.
It really worries me, especially what with all the things I'm hearing about the Satan worshippers and freaks that might come out of the woodwork tomorrow.
I don't know......something like 25% to 30% of Lubbock's workforce is in the medical field (the biggest medical complex between Dallas and L.A.); it wouldn't be unusual for a friend or family member to be dressed in scrubs from another place--although if it were my baby, I would consider it highly unsafe and unsanitary for a family member not to change out of scrubs before coming to see my newborn.
This sounds so strange to me... the couple are very young, and some nut case realized that and played on this young couple. Hope they find her and the baby soon.
"On Sunday, the woman asked to take the baby to her brother's house, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. Ysasaga refused, instead going along and bringing the baby and her 2-year-old son, the Department of Public Safety said.
The four were returning to Ysasaga's home when the woman disappeared with Priscilla while the mother was distracted by her son, police Lt. Roy Bassett said".

I know; I wonder how she managed to identify this couple in order to target them, what with HIPAA and all that?
Not to mention that when Katrina evacs came into town, we gave them all scrubs with UMC on them. They were donated and at the time, I thought this might be scarry if someone tried to use them in a harmful way. Not saying she is Katrina, because majority of them who stayed here are black and not 140 pounds.
"It really worries me, especially what with all the things I'm hearing about the Satan worshippers and freaks that might come out of the woodwork tomorrow."
I had not even considered this.
