Its no wonder that the American people are frustrated with the Republican Congress. Americans deserve progress, but instead are bombarded with politics driven by fear and division. They deserve action on the challenges we face as a nation - an endless and costly war in Iraq, skyrocketing gas prices and soaring health-care costs. Rather than dealing with real priorities, the Republican leadership is focused on writing discrimination into the Constitution.
Just like the circus surrounding the Senates effort to intrude into the Terry Schiavo case, today the Senate will begin debate on the Federal Marriage Amendment - a wholly inappropriate effort to override state courts and to intrude into individuals private lives and most personal decisions.
This so-called Federal Marriage Amendment should really be called the Republican Right Wing 2006 Electoral Strategy Amendment because it is more about rallying an extreme base to vote than about solving a problem. Proponents use fear tactics and claim that marriage is under attack by activist judges. Thats simply not true. The country is divided over gay marriage; within the laws of each state, there is ongoing debate in which Congress should not intervene. A vote for this amendment is a vote for bigotry - pure and simple. A vote for it is a vote against civil unions, against domestic partnerships, and against efforts by states to treat gays and lesbians fairly under the law.
Its a vote to impose discrimination on all 50 states, denying them their right to interpret their own state constitutions and to pass their own state laws.
The proposed amendment is inconsistent with our values and our humanity. Americans believe in tearing down the walls of discrimination and inequality, not creating new barriers for civil rights.

This had to be written by Patrick Kennedy. I do not believe Ted is this stupid or drunk.
I do.
Very good point.
He morphs between the two.
Did the Swimmer even read this after his aide wrote it? He says we are getting "politics driven by fear and division" in one sentence and then goes on to try to scare us in the next.
To the Swimmer and his cronies, "progress" is just a euphemism for higher taxes and bigger government.
Ted Kennedy says, "I did" to murder.
I can think of many ways we might make some progress. Let's start with the removal of the senior lard bucket from Massive2shitts from using up so much oxygen.
Brought to you by Senior Kennedy's stinking policies in legislation. We don't need this waste of skin....
If you think Fat Boy did more than merely lend his name to this ghostwritten apologetic, I got a bridge in Chappaquiddick I'd like to sell ya.
Definition of "bigotry" in the E. Kennedy dictionary: Morality and its servant, law and order.
He is one of the most evil human beings alive today. Only Satan keeps him in office.
It never ceases to amaze me that the people of Massachusetts keep reelecting this idiot.
To be lectured to by Teddy Kennedy on anything is too much to bear. Kennedy is literally a blot on the planet. He should be retired and made president of Yale where he will feel at home..
And you wouldn't know anything about that sort of tactic, would you Teddy? ;)
This vociferous windbag loves to legislate the way we live our paltry little lives. But he has participated in high crimes for years on end. His name is his badge. His ancestry is his license. He knows best for us and will do as he pleases.
He is one of the most wicked men ever born.
This article is an obvious effort to lie about the facts of the amendment.
This amendment is about protecting states from a Full Faith and Credit attack from Massachusetts upon the other states.
From an effort of the homosexual groups to forum select the best judge to impose their personal CHOICE upon the other citizens of the nation.
One the good news, Ted Kennedy might as well be comming out of the closet if his best argument is the fact he supports homosexuals to appeal to his core.
