Bush is the Next Reagan
Jun 4, 2006
Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal
The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.
-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will
-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't
They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't
-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did
They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will
They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't
They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be
-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are
They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be
-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't
They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't
-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was
They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be
-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did
They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will
The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.
The next Reagan??
If GWB keeps up this push to turn America into Mexico North, he'll be remembered more like wimpy Ronnie-boy Jr. Reagan than Ronaldus Maximus Reagan.
As much as I loved and heralded George W. Bush these past five years, that's how much I reject his suicidal push to transform the America I know and love into a third world nation.
Until three months ago, I would have walked barefoot over broken glass from the Atlantic to the Pacific to support President George W. Bush.
I was the guy at parties who would get in the face of anybody who said anything negative or disrespectful about GWB.
Now, when I look at him I get depressed and sick at the thought of GWB's bogus new mantra....
"READ MY LIPS. NO NEW AMNESTY."
Glad you suggested "George..." change his FR name - it's an insult
Gee ya think? lol
Newt hadn't yet sent any bills to conference by mid-'95. So I just think you've demonstrated you're too stupid to argue with.
During Newt's first 100 days Newt accomplished a lot. ~9 out of his 10 contract items passed the house. So I asked you what Newt accomplished after '95.
To which you respond that Newt hadn't sent any bills to conference by mid '95.
The question of what Newt accomplished after '95 remains unanswered by you.
You're response shows that you are a dope.
It really surprised me. No one had ever said that before.
They also had territory...if they used their weapons they risked annihilation. We are facing a whole different threat now, waged in the name of a religion with over 1 billion adherents connected by technology, funded by who knows who, taking up residence in the West waiting for the word or plotting, using liberal democracies to advance and protect their theocratic views, particularly in Europe. We can't even get our arms around who the enemy is let alone determine their ultimate danger, particularly with the likes of Iran in the mix.
I think he may be forgetting or ignoring the 1996 Welfare Reform Act.
Thanks for the ping!
Amen
I admired and trusted Reagan - I lived under Gov Reagan and worked on his first bid for Pres.
Then I worked on both successful campaigns back here on the east coast - had a group that got private tour of the WH and had Him as our main speaker at our conference....
I was deeply disappointed when he didn't fulfill his promise to dismantle the federal Bureau of Education...had he done so, we would not have the gays taking over our schools and kids minds starting at kindergarten...and states and local school boards and parents would have the say.
But he was not a God, nor was he a KING.
Bush is not a KING, nor a dictoator---altho many here seem to think he should able to just give an order and it would have to be followed - no congress or senate to worry about.
He has, however, kept many of his promises- and maybe some of us should take a little refresher course and calm down a bit/
read this thread for a reminder...(no one will ever be as perfect as some posters here, but by damn, we are lucky he's the man at the helm in these times.

This article puts into words what I've been thinking for months now.
History will show that President Bush advanced conservatism in ways Reagan didn't have the time to, because of term limits. It hasn't stopped, dropped dead, or reversed. It's been advanced. Conservatism has won small battles in the time since Reagan left office, but the larger war against liberalism and all that it enshrines, still exists.
Bush isn't making a mistake over immigraton. The biggest mistake would be is to do NOTHING.
I seriously doubt it would be a landslide, or Alan Keyes would have been Senator from Illinois.
Refreshing post. Thanks.
It wasn't one of his promises. Reagan promised to cut the size of government, but it's been growing since FDR.
Absolutely. Newt was a liability once the Clinton's played gutter politics, which made him focus on shoring his personal reputation instead of doing the job he was voted to do.
