'AL QAEDA' CREW NAILED IN CANADA
NY Post ^ | June 4, 2006 | Chris Michaud

Canadian authorities yesterday declared they had foiled a chilling bomb plot aimed at several targets in their country - busting an al Qaeda-inspired cell with likely connections to a pair of Atlanta-area men indicted on terror charges. The 17 suspects - including five youths 18 or under - were busted Friday night and yesterday morning at locations in and around Toronto, following a delivery of three tons of ammonium nitrate and other explosive components.

The tonnage was three times the amount used in the 1995 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.

New York City police said they were aware of the arrests, but "nothing in the investigation has caused the NYPD to change its counter-terrorism posture in New York," said spokesman Paul Browne.

Evidence of the Canadian cell's bomb-making materials, including a cellphone bomb detonator, was displayed at a news conference in Toronto yesterday.

"The modus operandi is very similar to other attacks that have taken place around the world," said Mike McDonell, assistant commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Targets reportedly included Canada's Parliament buildings in Ottawa and the downtown Toronto offices of its spy agency, Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Media reports said a major tourist site in Toronto was also a target.

I was in a Federal courthouse on the day of the OKC bombing. The US Attorney arranged for us to have a television. I immediately said that it was probably a fertilizer bomb and gave them a short explanation. They laughed at me.

When we reported for jury duty the next month everyone wanted to know how I knew.

Media reports said a major tourist site in Toronto was also a target.

Will they be convicted of conspiracy to commit war crimes against civilians?

Being a Canadian I hear that all the time on local radio shows. Nutjobs phone in all the time declaring that Canada will never be attacked. I'm sure their answer would be the take down is a set up - picking on innocent Moslem communities.

Already heard some this root causes crap in the Canadian media - also an interview with a Moslem writer asking if she is worried about blowback against Moslems.

You may be onto something there! Osama Load a Dung wants the West to be in 'all out war' with Islam and nothing would tip the scales faster than to bring the leftist of America on board by blowing up Hollyweird or exterminating a building full of leftist in full apologetics for terrorists mode.

Don't forget the weather patterns flowing from the Toronto area because nuke energy generating sites are suspected as targets.

What about that stadium with the retractable roof? Are there any large events planned there in the near future which would be likely targets?

That points to multiple bombings planned. You'd have a hard time setting that much off all at once. Even if you had a semitrailer to put it in.

That's silly, are you going to track every farmer? I don't suppose they bought the entire 3,000 pounds in a single lot. And there were a bunch of them to make those multiple purchases.

Canadians will never wake up.

What a dick!!!
Our boys a re taking care of business and somehow you can spin this into
a "blame Bush" scenario..
Canadians know Bush didn't bully us into Afghanistan.
A member of NATO (the USA)was attacked and by treaty obligation, an
attack on any NATO country
is an attack on all NATO countries and we are obligated to assist - just
like you would be obligated to help us respond if a foreign power were to
attack us.
Methinks you're a little jealous that our boys are takin care of business
without the help or your sorry arse.

MISSISSAUGA, Canada (June 5) - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police itself delivered three tons of potential bomb-making material to a group that authorities said wanted to launch a string of attacks inspired by al-Qaida, according to a news report Sunday.

Mike McDonnell, an assistant commissioner with the Mounties, said Saturday that the amount of ammonium nitrate acquired by the alleged terror cell was three times that used to blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168 people and injuring more than 800.

The fertilizer is safe by itself, but when mixed with fuel oil or other ingredients, it makes a powerful explosive.

There was no indication that Canadian police altered the fertilizer to make it unusable in a bomb.

Yea, I saw the story later. Shades of WTC one, only this time the authorities grabbed them before they could complete their plans. Apparently these guys weren't the sharpest arrows in the quiver, and thought they could buy 3 tonnes of the stuff, undetected. A group with an aveage IQ above room temperature (F) would have figured out that they needed to acquire it smaller lots. I don't think even farmers buy the stuff in 3 tonne lots.

However, it means RCMP was on to them before they tried to acquire the fertilizer. Bean Counter had speculated that they were detected through their attempt to purchase the stuff.

Good work by the Mounties.

"Looks like a retread to me"

He bears striking resemblance to an idiot who came on a thread bashing Ireland:

He got banned recently, I guess he came back to pick on Canada this time!
