Here's a thought for you: the type of explosive in the Horton bomb/fire is very hard to cook if not under an industrial grade exhaust hood; was the perp cooking up his explosives after hours at Hortons?

The story is: he entered the bathroom and soon after it exploded. Whatever he used, he had with him when he got there.

Hmmm...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhenium

"Rhenium is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Re and atomic number 75. A silvery-white, rare, heavy, polyvalent transition metal, rhenium resembles manganese chemically and is used in some alloys. Rhenium is obtained as a by-product of molybdenum refinement and rhenium-molybdenum alloys are superconducting. This was the last naturally-occurring element to be discovered and belongs to the ten most expensive metals on Earth."

Almost had me hunting a 45 year old copy of "Elements of Chemistry," you did.

Hmmm... food for thought- some of the restrooms we have in the states have exhaust systems that sound like they are sucking up half the air in the world- he might have thought that would minimize the chances of the smell giving him away.

And that's the key, 'the story is'. I wonder, would a floor plan of the Horton's and the time of detonation be important to sorting this out? It has happened here in the deep South that a 'fry station' under an industrial hood was used to cook up Meth during 'store closed' hours. Some explosives have poisonous gases as by products during 'cooking'.

Unless that one is some weird exception, Tim Horton's are open 24/7.

Not familiar with Horton's here in the South. Thanks for the info. Regarding the explosive, From Wikipedia: "It is widely used by people who want to make homemade explosives because of its low cost and ease of manufacture. They often have no idea of its extreme sensitivity, or they make it anyway solely because it's cheap and can be made in a refrigerator. There is a common myth that the only "safe" acetone peroxide is the trimer, made at low temperatures: "If one is making tricycloacetone peroxide, the temperature must be less than 10 °C at all times, otherwise the product formed will be dicycloacetone peroxide, which is so unstable and sensitive that it has no uses in the field of explosives: dicycloacetone peroxide has been known to explode spontaneously." In reality, the acid-catalyzed peroxidation of acetone always produces a mixture of dimeric and trimeric forms. The trimer is the more stable form, but not much more so than the dimer. All forms of acetone peroxide are very sensitive to initiation. Organic peroxides are sensitive, dangerous explosives. The military does not use them because there are many much better alternatives. Even for people who synthesize homemade explosives, there are many far safer alternatives. Even nitroglycerin is not nearly as sensitive as acetone peroxide."

"It is also a hazardous by-product of isosafrole oxidation in acetone, a step in illicit synthesis of MDMA."

Was the major of one of the GT students 'chemistry'?

MG, I respect your curiosity, but you are barking up the wrong tree, I think. Let's see if we can find this guy's identity. It would explain a lot.

Can someone please tell me why our government refuses to order drugs that will safeguard our citizens against a nuclear or dirty bomb attack? Health and Human Services wants to order up to 100,000 doses of anti Radiation drugs. Anthony Fauci is the most corrupt official in DC to come up with that amount. This plot in Canada and the one in England point out that we must be prepared for these large scale events. We aren't even close to be prepared. Washington sleeps just like it did before 9-11.

Terrorists in Canada

Posted on June 3rd, 2006 at 12:24 pm by Meryl Yourish.

Do you think it’s time we stopped discussing root causes? Because the last time I checked, Canada was an obnoxiously multiculti, socialist-oriented nation replete with national healthcare and hate speech laws.

That didn’t seem to stop them from having several cells of homegrown terrorists try to blow up Canadian civilians. Why? Gee. Every one of the arrestees was Muslim. Can you think of a reason?

...

So let’s check the tally. Jihadis in London arrested yesterday. Jihadis in Canada arrested today.

Does anyone doubt that we are truly in a global terrorist war? WWIV has been ongoing since before 9/11, but 9/11 was the day it was announced to the world.

We have a long way to go. And the Cindy Sheehans of the world are not helping.

Update: It’s a worldwide terrorist conspiracy. No joke. Click the link. There are ties to terrorism arrests in United States, Britain, Bosnia, Denmark, Sweden, and Bangladesh.

Say hello to WWIV.

Here's one that seems to be missing - From http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060604/news_1n4canada.html

"It was not clear whether the group ever had possession of the chemicals. When a police spokeswoman, Cpl. Michele Paradis, was asked whether the group had the three tons of chemicals in their possession and if the police had “seized” it, she replied: “That's difficult to answer. They made arrangements to have it delivered and they took delivery.”

Yes, it appears I got off on a tangent. BUT, there are reports of terrorists funding their groups by the sale of illicit drugs, such as MDMA (ecstasy).

Good catch. That much fertilizer takes up a fair amount of space and the mixing process requires a larger area of operations in order to bring the fuel and fert together for mixing. Perhaps the bags or bulk of fert were delivered to a farm or large storage facility. I'm wondering if some transportation arrangements were made that could have allowed explosives to enter the USA and be 'trucked' to parts unknown!

More on the fertilizer ... but just where it was found and how it got there is still not revealed: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1643116/posts

Kind of far-fetched to think that the cops did a great job chasing them down for months, then somehow were incompetant enough let them get ahold of a few truckloads of the final piece, and don't know what happened to it.

That "hard to answer" answer seems like she didn't want to stomp on the bosses toes when in his press conference he made it seem as if these guys were set to light the fuses.

Great work, as usual, Backhoe. Thanks

For you Georgians, re: Homeland Security $$$$$.

Our pastor (from Georgia) claims that Schumer and other NY democrats should be thrilled that all that money will be used to protect CNN headquarters in Atlanta.
