Snow: Flow of illegals not an 'invasion'

Spokesman says Article 4 of Constitution doesn't apply to border issue

Saying Mexico is "not the enemy," presidential press secretary Tony Snow today rejected the characterization of the constant flow of illegal aliens over the U.S. border as an "invasion."

At today's White House press briefing, WND asked the spokesman: "Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says, 'The United States shall guarantee to every state in the Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them from foreign invasion.' My question is, does the president believe this foreign invasion means only armed invasion, or doesn't this also mean the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants?"

Responded Snow: "I think what you are doing is you're attaching a martial connotation to something that does not have martial consequences. …

"What the president has said – if you were talking about an invasion, he's made it clear that Mexico is not the enemy."

WND also asked Snow about a lawsuit by war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both of his arms in Iraq. Damon has sued Michael Moore for using clips without his permission in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to give the false impression that he opposed the war.

"I didn't lose my arms over there to come back and be used as ammunition against my commander in chief," Damon was quoted as saying.

"If he is asked," queried WND, "will this commander in chief be willing to testify in court on behalf of this double amputee sergeant?"

Snow called it a "hypothetical question"

"Please don't put me in the position of trying to answer to a lawsuit between somebody who served his country and Michael Moore," Snow said. "We'll let them deal with it."

See if you can get me Martha washington's apple turnover recipe.

http://www.lillieross.com/martha.htm

(snips) –

Canton OH, Special - With hundreds of servants at her command… a person would think our first First Lady was a woman of leisure.

Not so… according to a new historical discovery. A long out-of-print volume entitled, "The Martha Washington Cook Book" reveals that Mrs. Washington personally supervised her entire household staff… and especially the kitchen and dining room servants.

****

Perhaps more interesting for us history buffs is the detailed description of the kitchen and dining habits in the George Washington household. Would you believe... Martha always sat at the head of the table... with her husband at her side to the right.

Despite dozens of servants around the table, either Martha or George always carved the meats to be served!

****

............... closest I could come to the apple turnovers:

MARTHA WASHINGTON PIE

4 tart apples

2 eggs

1/2 c. fructose

1 tsp. butter, melted

Pinch of salt

1 tsp. nutmeg

Line a pie tin with crust. Peel carefully and grate apples. Add to the pulp the yolks of eggs, fructose, butter, salt and nutmeg. Mix and turn into crust to bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. When cooked cover with meringue.

2 egg whites, beaten

2 tbsp. fructose

1 tsp. vanilla

Beat egg whites at high speed until firm. Add fructose and vanilla, mix lightly. Bake until lightly browned.

*********

I never knew all these things about dear Martha. Thank you for making me curious.

:-)

What I said was certainly not intended to be insulting.

I believe that those who want to send all the illegals back are not the majority and no one who stood on that platform could be elected to national office.

The president's diplomatic plan to get tax revenue from a large black market is the epitome of the expression, "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade."

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Give him credit of calling for enforcemnet of the border but not for enforcement of the laws. Ask him how he feels about those who are here illegally or their employers. "we can't just deport 12 million people"....why not, shut off their funds and they will be easy to find and cheaper to deport than sustain.

I've bought extra shares in therapists' couches. I see many Pubbies running to the therapy couches, replacing all the Kerryites from last election.

Speaker Pelosi. That's what you want, right?

Capitalism. You have a problem with capitalism? Why, that's un-Republican!!!!

" The word "conservative" means something more than just "someone who likes the House immigration bill.""

Yes it does, such as never supporting anything that Kennedy, Hillary, Reid and Mcain supports.

Anything that they are for I can almost assure you I will be against. Because it's anti-american, anti-freedom and damn sure anti-good for this country.

As is the Senate Immigration bill.

Actually your name calling is a thuggish tactic. Please answer the question w/o resorting to namecalling or calling your mommie. I know that these immigration threads are for circle backpatting sessions and no real questions asked so I did cross the border by asking an unanswerable question.

Me a DUmmie because I disagree with you?? Lots of Bushbots over at DU. Perhaps your the DUmmie?

Now thug, how you going to replace the workers that we are desparately short of??

Oh BTW calling me a Jackass is not hardly original, but good for you it really validates your points. What a jerk!

About what I expected, when asked a serious question you can't come up with a serious answer. But you are really good at namecalling, so ya got that going for ya.

ah, the usual tack of the unserious mind: dismiss a proposal without addressing it.

Man up and show the work: Exactly how would ending all forms of government subsidy of sloth NOT create the required pool of mudsill labor you claim we so desperately need?

The welfare workers are in the city and will not move to the country to work hard. They going to put down their crackpipes and sweat for 10 hours per day or do migrant work/construction/mill work?? Nice dream.

Fact is we need hard working Mexicans for the labor intensive jobs. Where you going to get 10 million hard workers after you deport the Mexicans? You going to import them, train them and try to keep them working?

Please explain w/o your namecalling or you going to call mommie again for asking questions in your "Conservative" only thread?

the prospect of starving to death in a fortnight serves wonderfully to concentrate the mind. The Great Depression proved that.

No explanation for namecalling need be provided by me: your constant espousal of leftist attitudes and excuses serves that role admirably.

I am a leftist because I espouse common sense? Nice try. Your answer is pathetic and go right back to the thuggish namecalling. You have no answer, deport the Mexicans and starve the welfare queens til they frame the houses and pick the crops is your answer??

President Bush lives in the real world not the fantasy world you live in. We need hard workers and Guest Worker w/o citizenship is the only way to accomplish that. Now for a real answer from you, as this bray says, I'm all ears??

no, you seem to be a leftist because you assume your leftist platitudes are common sense.

People will work if they have no viable alternative means of staying alive. If you can dispute this, lay it on me. If all you have is more socialist tripe and soft bigotry of low expectations, you should consider relocating to DU.

I think he's going about it in the wrong way (by far!) but I see your point and thank you for your reasoned response.

And creek...I still think you went way too far.
