Snow: Flow of illegals not an 'invasion'

Spokesman says Article 4 of Constitution doesn't apply to border issue

Saying Mexico is "not the enemy," presidential press secretary Tony Snow today rejected the characterization of the constant flow of illegal aliens over the U.S. border as an "invasion."

At today's White House press briefing, WND asked the spokesman: "Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says, 'The United States shall guarantee to every state in the Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them from foreign invasion.' My question is, does the president believe this foreign invasion means only armed invasion, or doesn't this also mean the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants?"

Responded Snow: "I think what you are doing is you're attaching a martial connotation to something that does not have martial consequences. …

"What the president has said – if you were talking about an invasion, he's made it clear that Mexico is not the enemy."

WND also asked Snow about a lawsuit by war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both of his arms in Iraq. Damon has sued Michael Moore for using clips without his permission in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to give the false impression that he opposed the war.

"I didn't lose my arms over there to come back and be used as ammunition against my commander in chief," Damon was quoted as saying.

"If he is asked," queried WND, "will this commander in chief be willing to testify in court on behalf of this double amputee sergeant?"

Snow called it a "hypothetical question"

"Please don't put me in the position of trying to answer to a lawsuit between somebody who served his country and Michael Moore," Snow said. "We'll let them deal with it."

Us here, are not the problem. But WE the people are. WE let this problem as Americans get out of control. Can we honestly blame Mexico? When we never said no to them with any real meaning did we, a few hundred border partrol and checkpoints was it. We really said yes with every single other form of communication. YES work for us, YES we wont throw you out, YES get healthcare, YES have your kids here, YES we will educate them, YES YES YES. And with news from the Busby campaign today, YES participate in our elections.

WE voted overwhelmingly for initiatives NOT to provide social services for illegals, but the people's will was subverted by corrupt politicians and courts. Bush and international business have overruled the will of we the people..

WE did not tell the border patrol and the INS to back off, it was corrupt politicians.

Is it our fault that our politicians are corrupt? Well yes, we must kick them out. But we do not have to abide the fruit of their crimes.

"We the people, instead of being to blame, are truly the court of last resort and the only hope for resolving the illegal INVASION."

We the people ARE The government. We elect them. They are us. The illegals are here because WE let them in. And they are here to stay because we will not throw them out.
Now we can heap blame on liberals for a great deal and activist judges, but republicans have done little to stop them.

Do I personally agree with what WE the people vote for everytime or choose to care or not care about? No, who does.

But your right, the people are the last great hope.
There is a little action now with the guard going to the border. Lets hope that trend continues.

"Well yes, we must kick them out."

Yep.

WE must do that, and illegals are becoming more and more a hot issue then ever before. Maybe, there will be some change.

I don't think you have "accidentally" overlooked the information that has been sent your way on this thread, such as the fact (that many here have stated) that 12 years ago we passed legislation here in California to address the problem.

You are so busy droning that it's all our fault, I don't believe you came here honestly for debate. We've all wasted time posting to you.

The propositions failed because California has activist liberal judges that over rode them. The activist judges got there because the people elected politians that put them there.

Answer. The people need to throw out those politicians.
That just doesnt happen much does it?

California has a dysfunctional electorate. They dont know what the F*** they want half the time.

However, they are still WE the people.

The power is with the people on all of this. ALways has always will. And until a majority of the electorate is convinced enough to vote with actual goals in mind it is not going to change too much.

Now I get it. You're trying to tell us you're a die-hard Dim. And you're referring to your fellow Dims and yourself as 'we the people.' Yes, you Dims are to blame; I totally agree.

despite your arrogant dismissal, apparent ignorance, and slovenly posting style (it is 2006, not 2004), there are indeed direct parallels between the later Roman Empire's laeti policies and our current non-enforcement and possible future amnesty-by-another-name policy.

The profiteers and politicians THEN thought they could make a mint and ride out the chaos. They were dead wrong.

Thanks, but I'm just sharing today. I got that 'press one' image in email this AM from a friend on the East Coast, and... just guessing... thought it might possibly ring true for 'one or two' others here as well. ...grin

oh, and by the way, donkey-noise:

Study: 1 million sex crimes by illegals, Researcher estimates 100 offenders crossing border daily

read it and remember the depradations of huns, goths, vandals... and weep.

>>>>Sorry to say this but Tony Snow has become a puppet and is fast losing his conservative credentials.

Tony Snow has always been a good old boy, a good old "Bushie". I've never considered Tony Snow a movement conservative, AKA. a "Reagan conservative". Reagan conservatives are emulated by Rush Limbaugh, Tom Tancredo, Sean Hannity and Newt Gingrich. I like Tony Snow. He's a good guy, but he doesn't represent conservatism.

"...but even though Michael Savage is all over the place at times, I love that guy's emotions."

I'm not sure Savage is available around here (SoCal). I've heard him from time to time in the past. Loud and strident, but I would guess his heart is in the right place.

"Now I get it. You're trying to tell us you're a die-hard Dim. And you're referring to your fellow Dims and yourself as 'we the people.' Yes, you Dims are to blame; I totally agree."

Wow are you way off base.
In California we the people are mostly dims unfortunatly. And they have seriously contributed to the problem. But that is our system of government and how it works. IF we get liberals and activist judges in power its because we the people put them there.

I personally have voted republican since I could vote. 1984. First vote I ever made was for Ronald Reagan.
Now republicans can be spineless and not confront liberals and bad policy. But how often does an elected politician get challenged and replaced by the party?

They way to fix the problem is to convince our fellow voters that they must vote for results and convince them of what those results need to be.

It is an uphill climb in California.

I suspect that things must become crisis level before the masses see the light.

Make no mistake. Its us. We are responsible for these problems. You may not like the way most of "we" vote, as I do not. But it is "we".

and as conservatives it is our responsiblity as individuals to take our best arguements out of here (forums like this) and put them out there and try to convince as many as possible.

The internet is changing many things.

I never dreamed we would actually have guard being sent to the border. I think things are starting to move a bit. Maybe the Minutemen was the starting point. But its up to each one of us to do our bit. So that "we" becomes more conservative.

I'm calm enough, thanks.

If you want to ping me to threads where I have an opportunity to defend the president and offer real strategies that will allow us to replace the amnesty with immigration enforcement, That's fine with me. I just wanted to be sure I knew what I was getting into.

I like Tony, too. He's just doing a job, and doing it well. He wasn't elected, so whatever his personal politics are is moot.
