Snow: Flow of illegals not an 'invasion'

Spokesman says Article 4 of Constitution doesn't apply to border issue

Saying Mexico is "not the enemy," presidential press secretary Tony Snow today rejected the characterization of the constant flow of illegal aliens over the U.S. border as an "invasion."

At today's White House press briefing, WND asked the spokesman: "Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says, 'The United States shall guarantee to every state in the Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them from foreign invasion.' My question is, does the president believe this foreign invasion means only armed invasion, or doesn't this also mean the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants?"

Responded Snow: "I think what you are doing is you're attaching a martial connotation to something that does not have martial consequences. …

"What the president has said – if you were talking about an invasion, he's made it clear that Mexico is not the enemy."

WND also asked Snow about a lawsuit by war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both of his arms in Iraq. Damon has sued Michael Moore for using clips without his permission in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to give the false impression that he opposed the war.

"I didn't lose my arms over there to come back and be used as ammunition against my commander in chief," Damon was quoted as saying.

"If he is asked," queried WND, "will this commander in chief be willing to testify in court on behalf of this double amputee sergeant?"

Snow called it a "hypothetical question"

"Please don't put me in the position of trying to answer to a lawsuit between somebody who served his country and Michael Moore," Snow said. "We'll let them deal with it."

Sorry, I believe in personal accountability. Those who break the laws are the lawbreakers and who is to blame. That means both the illegals and the Mexican government. It is the responsibility of Mexican citizens to make its country less corrupt so that its government functions properly for its people.

My government has no legal jurisdiction or authority over the Mexican government or its citizens, who desire to be lawbreakers.

What the U.S. does have power over is enforcement of U.S. laws, as applied to the border, employers, and lawbreakers. That the U.S. did not enforce those laws only encouraged lawbreaking to worsen.

"Tony Snow's a member of the Council on Foreign Relations."

Where in the name of God did this guy get his reputation as a "conservative"?

I'm not a big Snow fan, but have listened to his old radio show often. I got a clear impression he supports the whole CFR open border agenda.

"The law does not apply anymore."

It's sure beginning to look that way.

I have never seen of the "humanitarian" groups in this area. I have personally rescued illegals stranded in the desert (I turn them over to BP, but they are saved) Around here it is either BP or locals that save them, and the MM saved a few when they were here. I think the so called "humanitarians" are mostly full of it.

"Sorry, I believe in personal accountability. "

Me too. And that is why I consider this an American problem due to complete policy failure in dealing with these desperate illegal immigrants and occasionally serious violent criminals mixed in with them. We hung out the goodies and said come on over for decades. We said one thing and acted entirely different on the matter. That is the main source of accountiblity to me. Desperate people will behave in desperate ways especially when there is no enforcement of laws. That is no secret.

But bottom line now, It is damage control at this point.
The chance to have fixed it properly is long gone. All this rage and anger about it was needed twenty or thirty years ago. It's too late to make it the way it should have been, the dam has broke, there are no politicians with power enough or spine to put all the water back behind the dam.

I just want a new dam and fix the leaks at this point. stop the bleeding.

Bummer I.

I never listened to his show. His droning voice is a turn off to me. And, he's always been a little soft and too careful in my opinion. (jmo)

CFR guy , eh? Bummer II.

This was really the tipoff. We just didn't pay that much attention to the signs.

Reconquesta is an invasion" ........... Is it an invasion if we invited them? Because not enforcing the border for decades and providing jobs is basically an invitation.

****

"An invitetion"?

The chance to have fixed it properly is long gone. All this rage and anger about it was needed twenty or thirty years ago.

There has been plenty of rage and anger about this, all along the border states, for the past 20 or so years, but those cries have been largely ignored. Why? Because it was "limited" to the southern states/border towns and didn't bother people throughout the rest of the country because it wasn't affecting them. When it finally did, the politicans, media, and others began paying attention. Even now, however, many people claim it's not a problem. I think that's because 1) they aren't living near the border areas; or 2) the are personally benefitting from illegals.

Up until now, complaints from U.S. citizens along the border, and southern state areas, have been largely ignored. It does seem that either more violent criminals have been coming through, or the media can no longer ignore the crimes committed by illegals which the locals have been long reporting.

WE did this to ourselves.

Just like we brought on 9/11? Bullspit. Mexico encourages the smuggling of drugs, weapons, currency, and humans. Look at the resounding failure of the WOD. You going to blame that on America too? It is not becoming to the conservative cause to blame America first. It comes off as whiney and candy@ssed to be afraid that the court of world opinion would condemn us for a well deserved smackdown of the Mexican government. Starting with sanctions to appease the sissies that would cry about the unfair treatment of poor little Mexico. They send their criminals here so that they do not prey on the Mexican populace. Some friendly neighbor. I hold no animosity for the Mexican people. I despise their corrupt government.

"Just like we brought on 9/11?"

We let it happen, because of Clintonite nonsense with the Gorelick wall. Able Danger military intelligence team fingered Atta but could not get the FBI to do anything about it because of bad policys creating that wall.

We let the illegal alien problem happen too. Because we did not do what needed to be done long ago.

That reminds me of Shakespeare's stanza from As You Like It:

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.

Or, from George Orwell's Shooting An Elephant:

"He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it."
