Snow: Flow of illegals not an 'invasion'
Spokesman says Article 4 of Constitution doesn't apply to border issue
Saying Mexico is "not the enemy," presidential press secretary Tony Snow today rejected the characterization of the constant flow of illegal aliens over the U.S. border as an "invasion."
At today's White House press briefing, WND asked the spokesman: "Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says, 'The United States shall guarantee to every state in the Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them from foreign invasion.' My question is, does the president believe this foreign invasion means only armed invasion, or doesn't this also mean the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants?"
Responded Snow: "I think what you are doing is you're attaching a martial connotation to something that does not have martial consequences.
"What the president has said if you were talking about an invasion, he's made it clear that Mexico is not the enemy."
WND also asked Snow about a lawsuit by war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both of his arms in Iraq. Damon has sued Michael Moore for using clips without his permission in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to give the false impression that he opposed the war.
"I didn't lose my arms over there to come back and be used as ammunition against my commander in chief," Damon was quoted as saying.
"If he is asked," queried WND, "will this commander in chief be willing to testify in court on behalf of this double amputee sergeant?"
Snow called it a "hypothetical question"
"Please don't put me in the position of trying to answer to a lawsuit between somebody who served his country and Michael Moore," Snow said. "We'll let them deal with it."
If they can parse away this Constitutional protection, they can parse away all of them.
If you asked Snow if that position changes if "job seeking invaders" are pouring in from China by boat by the thousands per day, he would call it "hypothetical" and fail to answer.
I am beginning to lose a lot of respect for Tony Snow........
See post #136. BTW, Tony has always been for amnesty for illegals.
Maybe some will now educate themselves exactly as to why.
It's a long read, Leatherneck, but you are cordially invited to read, at your persusal, what's going on in the CFR, of which Tony Snow is a part. It's call the "North American Community" and spells disaster for the sovereignty of the United States of America. The Presidents of America and Mexico and the Prime Minister embraced this "plan", calling it the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP).
North American Union to Replace USA? ("is this the plan alert?"). We're are over 1,200 posts and going strong. Many links, documents, articles, legislation, names, numbers, figures, charts, and a few maps.
1) If it LOOKS like an invasion;
2) And it SOUNDS like an invasion;
3) Guess what? IT IS AN INVASION!
WHAT!?!?!?!?!
BTTT
Gee, and they are complaining about the number in Iraq when the numbers are this high in our homeland?
No -- that's why I was one of the people who wasn't jumping up and down saying Tony should take the job.
god what is wrong with these people in washington and what the heck is up with tony snow i use to listen to him what is going on.
Our Federal government has insinuated itself into many areas that are really state's concerns as delineated by our Constitution. But the Feds most definitely are charged with defending our borders. And this they neglect because GW and the US Senate believe in some kind of cockamamie North American economic zone.
ME? I want as little to do with Mexico as possible. Mexico is not our friend. Mexico is nothing but bad news and gimme gimmme gimme
So, what is he going to do after 2008? Write a book?
Along with any hopes he can pick up where he left off on his radio show/FNC gig. He has probably lost 2/3 of his previous audience anyways, and he wasn't one of the highly rated talk show hosts to begin with.
He may have started losing listeners/viewers/fans when he was one of the very few national "conservative" radio talk show host to come out and back amnesty. Maybe that was the catylist for him to get his White House job. He figured his talk radio career was about kaput, anyways, so he jumped at the chance to get the job he always dreamed of having.
Medved and Hewitt are the only other national "conservative" radio talk show hosts that I am aware of to come out and back amnesty. They have probably lost a good chunk of listeners as well.
You have no idea.... I know that area very well, lived in Irvine for ten years, my uncle moved to Arizona from SoCal a year ago, my mother is moving from Anaheim Hills to Arizona this summer (already sold her house), my BIL is an OC Sheriff deputy and retiring next year, they hope to move, but my sister and nephew are both working on their masters at UCI so they may stick a few more years, but no longer than necessary... I could go on, but it makes me angry, I "loved" that whole area of California.
I imagine the ratings at FOX are going down significantly, too, as they shill for the admin on the subject -- I won't listen.
