Fleeing the battle

With all the invective it has spewed at the antiwar Jack Murtha, why isn't the GOP helping Diana Irey, his opponent in November?

Pennsylvania congressional candidate Diana Irey meets with reporters at the National Press Club in Washington, May 24, 2006. (Event thread here)

Last winter, Karl Rove promised his fellow Republicans that their party would win the congressional midterm election on the issues of war and national security. Perhaps he will still be proved right. But six months later, the White House political strategist and his party have backed away from confronting the most outspoken and credible Democratic critic of the Iraq war.

Despite all the invective fired at Rep. John Murtha, he is cruising toward reelection in his blue-collar southwestern Pennsylvania district without a serious challenge. (The socially conservative, pro-labor Democrat hasn't even bothered to put up a functioning campaign Web site yet.)

Hey, we're still early in the season. We've both been around FR long enough to know how it works. My point is simply that we're not just talk (mostly, though). Even if 95% of FReepers do nothing but post, that other 5% is made stronger by knowing about the other 95.

Before FR, the MSM had pretty well isolated us from each other, making us think we were alone and in the minority when we're not. Now, we know better. You may thank FR talking for that.

The season is fast approaching. Let's roll....

Hey, we're in agreement that FR is an awesome resource. JimRob has pulled together a lot of people who previously thought they were a tiny minority. But I still stand by my tagline.

My tagline irks Concretebob! (and many others) Tell you both what - if Diana Irey defeats Jack Murtha I'll retire the tagline for good. :-)

Sure. And if the line irks people into action, I say keep it up.

From one old hand to another, Coop.

Where are the prominent GOP politicians raising funds and raising her profile? (And for the record, I don't think President Bush should get involved with this one. But Cheney, Ed Gillespie, Tom Ridge, etc. would be wonderful!)

I sincerely hope she's smart enough not to invite John McCain into the district to campaign for her. She doesn't want to be seen as being on the wrong side of the immigration issue.

Coop's tagline no longer irks me.
I know its a joke, because he is the anathema to his own tagline.
Now my new tagline, OTOH, will raise some eyebrows.

It was Coop who took the time to call me when I finally got enough free time to actually come to DC and join the FReepers against code pink
It was that tagline which prompted me to come up with a way to get code pink away from the Main Gate at Walter Reed.

Coop this is all your fault.

Thank You

If I served as inspiration, then great. But you did the work, my friend.

You got permits for demonstrations at all four corners, right?

The D.C. Chapter had a permit for the two corners opposite from the Walter Reed post. Bob checked on the moonbats' permit for the opposing two corners, right adjacent to the gate. They had expired. Bob obtained permits for Protest Warrior (correct me if I'm wrong, CB). You should have seen the sad and bewildered looks on the little leftist faces as they waded into a sea of Americans. ROTFLMAO!!!

I remember the threads. Brilliant, simply brilliant. Does my heart proud to see the weapons of liberals turned against themselves.

I had a thought early in the waning hours of the morning. You know the one...when you're not anywhere near awake, but your body, and somehow your mind, know it's that time.

Murtha has done a great deal to help develop an economy in an area that was suffering 25 years ago. But now, after all these years of relative peace he not only has an actual war on his hands- he has blood money.

When he says 'BRING THE TROOPS HOME!' he's doing his best to assauge all the defense contracts because that makes him not look quite so much like Judas. He has painted himself into a corner while doing so, all the while thinking he would put on the whole armor to cover his ass AGAINST being a war hawk but to do so he was a Judas not to the defense contracts but sold our troops to save his ass.

Bite me, John Murtha. When Semper Fi and Esprit de Corps became nothing but words to sell, he made his decision to rot in hell. Rather than fighting the insurgents, he turned his guns on his own. He's a coward. A tiny, puny, lilly-livered coward who needs every button slowly popped off one by one with a sword at Quantico in full view of every Marine. There are no Marines at Pendleton that need to be ruined by a trial. John Murtha is the only Marine that needs a trial. A speedy trial and some swift justice.
Any Marine that would turn and fire point blank at close range on his own troops....

You have to admit that she took a "moderate" stance by calling on him to apologize rather than resign. That's all. Frnakly, I think she could have taken steps to have him committed. He makes me so mad.

While I would agree with you on a gut-level reaction to Murtha, Irey played it exactly right. Calling on him to apologize seems a reasonable and respectful reaction to those who are one-time Murtha supporters who were shocked by his statements. They are wavering, and when Murtha doesn't apologize (and you know he won't) he will look even worse to those people than he does now.

They had expired.

Actually, code pink NEVER had permits on file with DC Metro.
Special Operations had never heard of code pink.
I could hardly contain my delight when I realized I was approaching Nirvana.

What was priceless were the looks on the faces of the FReepers when they rolled up that evening and saw me on the wrong side of the street, with the American and Marine Corps flags flying at the entrance.
For me, everything after that was just icing on the cake.
