The $2.5 million book deal that Valerie Plame Wilson, the former Central Intelligence Agency officer whose identity was publicly disclosed three years ago, negotiated with Crown Publishing Group last month has fallen through.
Ms. Wilson, who could not agree on terms with Crown, is now in exclusive negotiations with Simon & Schuster, which originally had lost an auction for the book to Crown.
Although no contract has yet been signed with Simon & Schuster, David Rosenthal, the publisher, said, "We are optimistic about these talks."
When Crown announced the deal last month, Steve Ross, senior vice president and publisher, said the book had a working title of "Fair Game" and would be published in the fall of 2007. He said at the time that the book would be the "first airing of her actual role in the American intelligence community, as well as the prominence of her role in the lead-up to the war."
Yesterday, Tina Constable, a spokeswoman at Crown, said, "We had a difference of opinion on some of the contract terms, and we agreed to release each other from any publishing obligations."

Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson have got to be the two most self-absorbed people in Washington.
They want to be famous for being famous.

I can't imagine what she'd have to write about.
Joe Wilson has already blabbed to the whole world everything there is to know about the two of them, even stuff he should have kept quiet about.

Crown wanted sex, lies, and dirt.
Plame wanted something more serious and plausible.
Or vice cersa.
To: Lancey Howard
Uh, "vice versa".
Thank you.

He said at the time that the book would be the "first airing of her actual role in the American intelligence community, as well as the prominence of her role in the lead-up to the war."Sounds like the point of the book was to make Plame out to be some sort of omnipotent superspy, the supposed "outing" of whom crippled American intelligence capabilities. Perhaps even the premise was unable to make it past the first round of Crown fact-checkers! LOL.

I thought former agents, particularly "covert" agents, were required to sign an agreement not to disclose any info for X number of years after they left the employ of the CIA?? What happened? Have they now decided to admit she was only a desk jockey of no consequence?

I wonder if this book will give the details that led Plame's WMD control unit to mistake the Peoples Republic of China Embassy in Belgrade for a Serbian chemical weapons laboratory and submit a forged targeting order to NATO that led to the bombing of the embassy?
