Operational Commander in Iraq Orders Core Values Training

BAGHDAD, June 1, 2006 – The top coalition operational commander in Iraq has directed his subordinate commanders to conduct training in "core warrior values" for all coalition forces, highlighting the importance of adhering to legal, moral and ethical standards on the battlefield, military officials here announced today. Officials said U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli, Multinational Corps Iraq commander, ordered the training to reinforce and sustain training servicemembers received prior to their deployment to Iraq.

The order comes as the military investigates allegations of servicemembers killing unarmed Iraqi civilians.

"Of the nearly 150,000 coalition forces presently in Iraq, 99.9 percent of them perform their jobs magnificently every day," Chiarelli said. "They do their duty with honor under difficult circumstances.

"They exhibit sound judgment, honesty and integrity. They display patience, professionalism and restraint in the face of a treacherous enemy," he continued. "And they do the right thing even when no one is watching. Unfortunately, there are a few individuals who sometimes choose the wrong path."

Unit leaders will get a slide presentation with training vignettes they can adapt to their organizations. The training package emphasizes professional military values and the importance of disciplined, professional conduct in combat, Iraqi cultural expectations and the second- and third-order effects of actions that are contrary to professional military values, officials said.

"As military professionals, it is important that we take time to reflect on the values that separate us from our enemies," Chiarelli said. "The challenge for us is to make sure the actions of a few do not tarnish the good work of the many."

Units will conduct the training over the next 30 days.

"Operational Commander in Iraq Orders Core Values Training"

And in so doing he supports the bogus accusations made by Iraqi islamo-scum and cravenly attempts to appease the Leftist media and anti-American politicians. Unless this alleged 'massacre' is proven beyond the shadow of ANY doubt, these Marines should be given medals for heroism and our gutless, spineless leaders should go hide their shameful faces somewhere. But no,...... the brave Marines will get the screws, and our combat troops will get "sensitivity training". Has America gone insane, or what?

All I can say is: you do the best you can, if you screw up, to the woodshed!

No need for arm chair quarterbacks (who never fired a shot in anger) to come along SHOCKED at real life and real emotions.

Troops are not supposed to be politically correct. They are the product of specialized training to accomplish a specific military task. Anything that adds or detracts can put their lives in danger.
Somebody along the lines of Carville or Begala has to be giving the terrorists PR pointers.

Like the post-tailhook sermonizing sessions, the warriors who are doing it right take offense at being treated as if all of us were low-life bums. This helps nothing, and will cause some to pull their punches when they should be in full-on-enemy-slaughter mode. No, the answer is, if someone is found to be guilty, you throw the book at them and mete out the prescribed punishment. Don't make Sgt Rock watch Sesame Ethics videos.

This is the silliest bunch of PC BS!! - That is not needed by our warriors to boot! - It is a smack in the face to each and every warrior who has served to date in Iraq & Stan -

One of the first few times I've been disappointed in President GWB as a CIC (I know some silly as$ JAGs are who likely thought this response up...but he should have shot it down!).

Henceforth --- Americans should RESIST and OPPOSE any act of war against an enemy, that does not consist of the total destruction by AIR OR MISSLE attack of the enemy's will or ability to conduct war or pose a threat.

Air attacks appear the only politically acceptable method of killing sufficient numbers of "innocent civilians" - which bleed an enemy's society white and hurries their defeat...

We no longer have the National Will or Spine to place Grunts in harms way and accept the consequences....

Troops are not social workers or meals on wheels guys. The touchy feely do gooders can do that when the fighting is over.

Nothing like telling the troops you think they are a bunch of homicidal maniacs, and you don't trust them.

What's next. Requiring them to radio in for permission before they can load their magazines into their rifles, let alone use them.
