I was at the Queens College Commencement this morning, and I saw the whole thing occur. I also called up the Post and spoke to a reporter immediately afterwards -- so it's possible that I helped trigger this.
The context was this. There were lots of Democrat politicians there: Schumer, Hevesi, Jay Hershenson (CUNY Vice Chancellor), and Helen Marshall (Queens Borough President). Schumer spoke first, and they were all patting each other on the back, saying how great they all were and how important it was that graduates vote in the future. A few other not-so-subtle digs on Bush and Pataki, but nothing major. Hevesi gets up and gives a normal speech, and towards the end begins talking about how great Schumer is. Then he said -- and I quote because I immediately wrote it down -- Schumer would "put a bullet between the President's eyes if he could get away with it." There were a fair number of gasps, but then of course some people are pretty oblivious at these types of events. It slightly seemed that he caught himself and then said, "Well, he's a really tough guy" or something along those lines -- trying to put the remark in context.
I immediately called the Post and spoke to a reporter, and when I got back from the ceremony today saw that the AP was covering it.
"Do not taunt the Happy Fun Ball..." ;-)
If you check your url more than once you're playing with it.
You keep looking at those urls and you'll go blind... You'll get hair on your palms as well.
LOL!
bump
Thanks for the report. Supposedly QUeens College has a video of this and is refusing to release it.
Hevesi won't be arrested. Just like Patrick Kennedy, Cynthia McKinney, and William Jefferson haven't been arrested.
The WIMPIFICATION of the Republican Party will continue. Just a bunch of patsies who are afraid to fight back and enforce the laws on our books.
I wonder how the DU/Moveon.org/DailyKos crowd is reacting to this. Maybe it will start a boomlet for Schumer for President (in case Gore doesn't run).
THERE WILL BE NO SERIOUS WIDESPREAD INQUIRY INTO THE DEPTH OF LIBERAL HATRED.
Good catch..
Threaten to kill George Bush, that's ok, but dare to tell Bill Clinton he sucks and the IRS will be on you like white on rice.
Great job.
I think Americans need to put pressure on Queens College - they are HIDING something. If they receive any taxpayer money at all, they should release this information.
1. Schumer saying something to that effect in Hevesi's presence.
2. Schumer saying vile, but nonviolent things about the Prez in Hevesi's presence and Hevesi then turned it into a violent threat.
3. Hevesi's just making crap up to try and make Schumer look good to the rabid base.
The guy's falling all over himself apologizing to anybody who'll listen - TOO LATE - THE CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG.
You're right .. a remark like that comes out of you when you have been talking about it.
The dems are so ugly to other people yet they still try to claim they're the tolerant ones. Let them keep talking - America is finding out the dems are only tolerant when you do things their way.
Clinton Fights Freedom of Speech

Patricia Mendoza of Westchester, Illinois was unfortunate enough to be in Chicago this summer (1996) at the same time as our President, Bill Clinton. She was also unfortunate enough to express her criticism of our leader.....
Job well done! Many thanks for following through.
And unless it's recent (in the last few hours) for all the apologizing he's done, he's not apologized to the president.
A startling ommission.
I am sure that Hevesi was taped by many of the spectators and that sooner or later the tape will show up.
