Fear of Failing (More Liberal navel staring - pretty comical)
Newsweek via MSNBC ^ | 6/1/06 | Michael Hirsh

May 31, 2006 - A good therapist, we know, can sometimes help a person who’s lost his confidence or mental balance. But what do you do when an entire party needs therapy?

You’d think the Republicans would be the ones in need of professional help. This is a party burdened with a president so unpopular he barely has a base to stand on—Bush seems to be bypassing the lame-duck stage and heading straight for dead duck—a Vietnam-scale quagmire in Iraq and a post-Katrina rot of incompetence and corruption that is infecting the very foundations of the presidency and the GOP’s control of Congress. Not surprisingly, the Republicans are at each others' throats over this loss of prestige and popularity. Neoconservatives and traditionalists are fighting bitterly over foreign policy. Moderates and conservatives are battling over immigration and deficits. And when the maverick John McCain declares his candidacy for 2008 sometime in the next year, the Republicans will be shrieking at each other in public over abortion and other social issues.

Libs afraid to say who they are or what they stand for.

That and more Hillary intra-party bashing.

It still irritates the heck out of me when these writers have to begin their rant with a leading-paragraph attack on Republicans. Many people end their read there and miss the point.

Yes, he says he's not a Republican or a Democrat, but there is no way to read this drivel without coming to the conclusion that he's a flaming lib.

"I hold no brief in this fight, being neither Democrat nor Republican."

He's a Democrat. Democrats are liars about who they are and what they stand for. Republicans say what they mean, and mean what they say.

Democrats are cash cows for head shrinks, though their main motivation for treatment is to have their artificial confidence restored after narcissism meets reality.

"I hold no brief in this fight, being neither Democrat nor Republican."

These are the same seminar callers who call into talk radio, "long-time listener, big fan of the show, voted for Bush twice..."and then they go on to rip the administration.

It's a legitimate method of writing this kind of piece, though, and prevalent in essay writing--you show the accepted wisdom, which is what he's doing, and then counter it with a position no one seems to be noticing. He's bashing the hell out of Republicans to show how easy it should be to capitalize on our disarray, and then basically saying "What kind of idiot can't get some mileage out of this situation? The Dems, that's who!"

Of course his liberal bias is obvious in his ridiculous characterizations of Katrina and Iraq. But he really does smack the Democrats around, saying they're not even in the game.

Do all writers for NYT, WaPo, Newsweek, etal have to be pantywasted Jews? Aren't their any Jewish writers who would have at least served in either US or Israli defense forces? Do all journalist undergo castration before they are allowed to write? John Kerry silver star winner? I guess it doesn't bother him that he cannot verify Kerry or the Swift Boats claims since the candidate won't release his military record. Yea, Libs are scared, they are scared thier true history and agenda might actually be revealed and discussed. Its the same every election. Shoosh.

Why is this so hard to believe? Many here on FR claim they're not Republicans, but conservatives. This guy is obviously a liberal.

that most mild-mannered of presidents, Jimmy Carter.

BLECH!

Sorry.

That's like saying "that most mild-mannered of dictators, Joe Stalin."

The country is desperate for adult leadership, for competence and authority—above all, for an honest reckoning with all that’s gone wrong. And the country isn’t getting it. Maybe that helps to explain the Al Gore revival under way. Here, at least, was someone who can remember what adulthood was like—what it was like to hold power. Most of his Democratic colleagues appear to have forgotten.

Must....control...urge ..to laugh....uncontrolably.

Gore never had any power nor leadership.

To oversimplify, its tenets are: Stand up for democracy and freedom, yes, but keep the international system on your side. Make use of the United Nations whenever you can, though not necessarily, bending it to your needs when possible. Create as many allies as you can. Listen. Accommodate. Be magnanimous. Above all, make sure you have more guys on your side than your adversaries have on theirs.

What a big slab of nothing. He might as well have written "Stand up for freedom, yes, but don't do anything but talk about it at the UN." He is hilariously deceptive about the UN crimes that have been revealed, from oil for food to rape.

The country is desperate for adult leadership, for competence and authority—above all, for an honest reckoning with all that’s gone wrong. And the country isn’t getting it. Maybe that helps to explain the Al Gore revival under way. Here, at least, was someone who can remember what adulthood was like

His memory must be full of holes because he had to hire a woman to tell him how to dress, now that he's out of his mom's house.

Al Gore and Jimmy Carter are glowingly praised in this article. I believe this guy is neither a Demo or a Republican (and I don't see that as being as significant as some do)--he sure sounds like a hardcore liberal, though, one of those liberals who think the Democrat party is too conservative.

Newsweek is entirely populated with rabid Bush-haters, all the way up and down their ranks. Their "news" is a thorough joke, they only fool the naive with their professions of nonbias. Complete joke of a "news" magazine. They are a subsidiary of WaPo.

It's pretty comical, actually. You flip through an issue and it's Bush hatred pouring out. What other reason would one have to print Margaret Carlson or that other one, the CryptKeeper's great aunt? They hate Bush and that's all they do. (Eleanor CLift, that's it.)

Stand up for democracy and freedom, yes, but keep the international system on your side.

Democrats must first have the courage to strip bare the GOP’s failures. They must believe they're every bit as good on national security as their rivals.

No one looks like a wimp when he or she tells the truth.

If Stuart Smally was my role model, I guess I would be bummed too :-)

The country is desperate for adult leadership, for competence and authority

Which should read: "The Democratic Party is desperate for adult leadership, for competence and authority".

Let's add: "courage, morality, positivity, and a soul" (I was going to add "convictions", but the Dems sure have enough of those).

"I hold no brief in this fight, being neither Democrat nor Republican."

If you do a search of his archives, you will soon see this statement is only half true; he is neither Democrat nor Republican, he is a Communist. With that said, he is definitely vested in the fight.
