"If there were an iota of a chance that this did not happen, none of the things I just mentioned would have happened."
I am not sure how General Pace answering questions at a press conference or General Hagee flying to Iraq, or the POTUS answering questions about the alleged incident make the alleged crimes factual. Shouldn't we wait until the official facts come in on this matter? If your response is in reference to what DevSix and I have mentioned on a few threads about how quite often "innocent Iraqi" fully support for a number of reasons al Qaeda, Sunni radical Islamist groups, Saddamist, and others in attempting to kill US and coalition troops triggered your response. I simply was stating known facts that are clearly documented by scores of our military folks over the past three years.
But in my saying what I did I did discount the fact that perhaps some of the Marines may be found to have gone beyond their ROE.
We simply do not know the facts at this point. Besides. In todays politically charged world, if Pace or the POTUS have said nothing, then the L/MSM would be screaming about how they either don't care a damn or they have something to hide. So they have no option but to play along with the L/MSM.
If I where the POTUS. And least you forget. What responses have you heard from these two individuals. Have they not said, we should wait for the investigation to provide the real facts, and not get carried away with the different versions of what happened being perpetrated by the L/MSM?

It's not what anyone of them (W, SecDef, etc) have said, it's that they have even addressed the issue at all. I believe they believe it is going to be bad and they are trying to soften the blow. I can't blame them for that.

I lived through My Lai and was between tours when it happend. I knew Hugh Thompson after the fact and I saw what the Peers investigation and subsequent Calley trial did to this country and my Army. I guess I was naive in thinking it wouldn't happen again.
