It's not what anyone of them (W, SecDef, etc) have said, it's that they have even addressed the issue at all. I believe they believe it is going to be bad and they are trying to soften the blow. I can't blame them for that.

I lived through My Lai and was between tours when it happend. I knew Hugh Thompson after the fact and I saw what the Peers investigation and subsequent Calley trial did to this country and my Army. I guess I was naive in thinking it wouldn't happen again.

Thanks for serving. I mean that. But since you where there, you know very well, the type of actions our men are forced to perform in these cordon and search oriented patrols.
And being a battle tested and trained soldier you understand very well how the goons are conducting their resistance fighting. But again that is not the issue some of us are trying to at least appeal to. We just do not know what is true and what is fabricated at this point in time.
That has been the trust of my argument if one wants to use such terms.
What if it turns out in the end it was a carefully contrived setup by the goon squads to make it look like our men took out these families. It could go either way. And surely if our Marines literally did not follow the ROE, then they are going to be punished for it.
What you say is well taken. Most of us feel the same way. We don't want our men to be found guilty of any war crimes. And surely for those of us that are old enough to remember the My Lai massacre, which I am one of, fully know just how out of hand this can go on a moments notice. The same clowns, those that idolize goons like Cronkite etc., are in full force and ready to attack our HONORABLE MILITARY with a vengence and hate, worse then the hiss of Satan as he hides behind his black cape and peers with one eye slit at the Lord of Host.
I appreciate what you are communicating on the field day the L/MSM will have with this if in the end it is proven our Marines went beyond their normal adherance to the rules.
I simply am not pre-judging based on what we have been shown so far.
Those bloodied walls etc., could have been doctored up for all we know. Let us not forget a few months back the big deal that was made over our guys killing supposed innocent Iraqi in the Mosque in NE Baghdad a mile or so up from Sadr City. Remember how for a week plus the L/MSM keeped screaming our guys went into a mosque and fired point blank on a dozen or so "innocent" Iraqi. Then later it was found out it was not a mosque but a holding area for storeing weapon caches, and those killed where Sadr Milita that where in fact killing innocent Iraqi Shia. So I just taint buying the current L/MSM varying versions until our military hand down their verdict.
