A preliminary military inquiry found evidence that U.S. Marines killed two dozen Iraqi civilians in an unprovoked attack in November, contradicting the troops account, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.
President George W. Bush said he was troubled by news stories on the November 19 killings of men, women and children in the town of Haditha, and a general at the Pentagon said the incident could complicate the job for the 130,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
Allegations such as this, regardless of how they are borne out by the facts, can have an effect on the ability of U.S. forces to continue to operate, Army Brig. Gen. Carter Ham, deputy director for regional operations for the militarys Joint Staff, told a Pentagon briefing.
Reuters. Sorry. I'll look again.
Not only jumping to conclusions but digging up old dirt to beat a dead horse. CNN, while reporting on the "Haditha massacre", was showing Abu Ghraib photos in the background! Tell me there's no bias there.
Bush is helping prepare the country for the worst. So was Peter Pace, on Monday. You guys don't seem to get it.
You're right. We're all dumber than dirt. Since you sit on the right hand of God, will the DOW hit 15,000 this year?
He's the President. Be troubled in your private thoughts, not to the Traitors in the MSM. No one wants it to be true, but that doesn't mean you comment on it publicly other than to say that it is being investigated.
It has always been drilled into every Marine that if you are attacked by some one that means to kill you, you have the right to defend yourself with deadly force, that means you can kill them to prevent them from killing you.
and it doesn't matter if a single gunshot was ever fired back at the Marines after the IED went off, they had the right and duty to attack those that attacked them using deadly force.
Sounds kinda harsh doesn't it? Our Troops are fighting an enemy that refuses to wear uniforms, hides among the civilian populace, strikes at them from inside the homes of innocent iraqis and then runs away, and yet you worry about the legality of our actions.
When is it illegal for a Marine to fight back to prevent himself or other members of his unit from being killed during an attack on them?
Never.
I still see nothing wrong with his statement...
In other words, ignore Peter Pace, the President, the entire Marine command who are willing to speak anonymously to the media, two Marines who were at the scene shortly afterwards, every single news media source...ignore them all just so you won't be bothered by what everybody else in the entire friggin' world seems to know?
I can't believe how deluded some around here are, and to what lengths you will go to jump down the throats of anybody who is unwilling to bury their heads in the sand right along with you.
I hope and pray that, by some miracle, none of these news reports (in the hundreds by now) are true, and that these Marines did nothing against the rules of engagement, and are cleared of all charges.
But, I see and hear the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs with a long face, and I'm not encouraged.
I agree. Wasnt Reuters the DNCMSM mouthpiece that trumpeted the "Jenin massacre?"
President Bush said he was troubled by THE NEWS STORIES.
Don't read into it what isn't there.
And once again it's hearsay what he said, written by a
damn reporter.
The Commandant has gone to Iraq. The C, JCS addressed the issue over the weekend. The SecDef and W have addressed it today. If there were an iota of a chance that this did not happen, none of the things I just mentioned would have happened.
The "Jump to Conclusions Mat"! Great movie..
The anti-war crowd are at it overtime there are to many coincidences going on and irresponsible accusations being thrown around against the troops.
As I said before and at the risk of repeating myself if FReepers can't say anything good than please don't say anything at all.
Thanks. It's simply the latest news story on the incident. Again, the source is: HERE
Compared to what you or your crew have posted on this topic. Yes, it is. See to penetrate the ultra thick skulls of the Perpetually Moaning, you have to bring your post down to a level that will shock them out of their screaming fit.
If you don't like how people talk to you, try changing how you talk to them. You people always cry about being verbally shot at. Well don't dish it if you cannot take it. We aren't giving you fire, we are returning it.
"I know you are but what are we" Come on IS this the BEST defense you can come up with for your side? Any JR. High School student level intellect can come up with a better response then your weak "I know you are but what are we" comebacks. If this is the best you got, don't waste our time.
Curious Lead, Why are you and the Always Crying crowd so desperate to convict and hang the Marines before the Investigation is even done? Why are you all so desperate to jump up and screaming condemnation at the Marines on the bases of rumor and innuendo about a supposed "report" on an investigation that is NOT even finished yet?
The President announced a brief news conference where he delivered a terse statement and took no questions from the assembled media.
"As Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the United States of America I categorically refuse to cast doubt on my 100% support for our valiant men and women seving in uniform around the globe. Despite the disturbing nature of the few stories that are being bandied about in the press at the moment, I remain solidly behind our troops. We have an established right to due process in this country, and I will neither infringe upon, nor compromise, in any degree, our troops' access to this right, nor will I raise my voice with others in premature condemnation based upon preliminary appearances.
May God bless our troops, and may He continue to bless the United States of America.
Thank you."
This hasn't happened, yet, but it desperately needs to.
Where are you, Commander? Stand by your men!
Reuters - nuff said. I'll stick with the Marines.
The Anti war crowd are going to use this event to say that they no longer support the troops and can honestly say they believe the troops are a bunch of "babykillers"
