Probe Finds Haditha Killings Unprovoked
Reuters ^ | 5-31-06 | Will Dunham

Posted on 05/31/2006 4:01:53 PM PDT by Types_with_Fist

A preliminary military inquiry found evidence that U.S. Marines killed two dozen Iraqi civilians in an unprovoked attack in November, contradicting the troops’ account, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

President George W. Bush said he was troubled by news stories on the November 19 killings of men, women and children in the town of Haditha, and a general at the Pentagon said the incident could complicate the job for the 130,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.

“Allegations such as this, regardless of how they are borne out by the facts, can have an effect on the ability of U.S. forces to continue to operate,” Army Brig. Gen. Carter Ham, deputy director for regional operations for the military’s Joint Staff, told a Pentagon briefing.

The initial event was an IED. That's a provocation, even if the response turns out to have been disproportionate, or even unlawful.

I want to make sure I understand.

You believe that if an IED goes off, anybody within a one block area can be shot and killed, even if they had nothing to do with the IED. Right?

The MSM - Reuters in this case - continues to convict our Marines before all the evidence is in. Of course, allegations are all they are interested in printing. When found innocent of all allegations, the MSM will move to the next driveby.

Curious Pale, that is what a trial is FOR. Why are you so gung ho to convict them without even having the trial or completeing the Investigation? You are all over Freeper today trying to be judge and jury on this. What is your motivation claim they are Guilty b?

A Rueters story quoting anonymous sources and Amnesty International.

Now why would I be suspicious of the truth of this compost pile?

More "anonymous sources" BS, and I believe personally it's more manufactured Horsesh!t that should be rightly ignored until the true investigations are concluded and released.

Anything else at this point is PURE speculation.

“The forensics painted a different story than what the Marines had said,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

If it's not an official statement, I call BS.

Stop your lying. We now know for certain that the people within these homes (at the very least one of them) knew exactly of this IED! - The young 10 year old girl clearly states on video that she was aware of the IED (didn't leave for school because her family was waiting for it) and she knew the exact moment it was going to go off (and covered her ears!).

No, this family is far from innocent (and clearly had much more then "nothing" to do with this IED).

We know the "civilians" of Haditha were asked to leave several times as this city was going to be fully engaged (thousands did leave) those that didn't too a large degree were in support of the insurgents. Especially those who happen to know where IED's are planted and watch as they kill Americans -

Why are you constantly wanting to give these people the benefit of the doubt and not our soldiers?? - Who are on the ground in that specific region and have plenty of ways to know who is supporting insurgents and who isn't.

This very same Marine unit just weeks earlier with an embedded CNN reporter (for over a month) claims how these men risked their lives saving Iraqi's....how they showed unbelievable restraint, etc, etc.

Yet you still want to think the worst of them...and even worse then that..think the best of these families who we now know clearly were directly or indirectly involved with the placed IED. In that at the very least they were completely aware of it.

You're unbelievable.

The Administration has ordered a refresher course in political correctness for all the troops as if they have time for that while being targeted by IEDS. (abc radio this evening)

This is just the same story repeated over and over and over. Notice how they are NOW claiming "proof" based on hearsay and assumption?

What happens to all the Rush To Judgment Freepers if it simply turns out the report was mistaken? That the civilians were killed by the Terrorists before they detonated the IED?

This as all the signs of a Staged Atrocity. Dead bodies in a building that had supposedly not been fired on according to the famous "report" all the Anti War stooges are claiming to have seen.

An Iraqi child who claims to have "Seen" the Marines go into the builiding. Just a collection of rumor, hearsay and innuendo being strung together to generate a false preception of guilt on the Marines part. Really disgraceful

I'm not. I'm just presenting my opinion, based on what I've read and what I've heard from people at Camp Pendleton.

Laura Ingraham is saying that her sources at the Pentagon--who are, presumably, not leftist ideologues out to smear the troops--are saying that it's not looking good. Does that make her "gung ho to convict them?" No, it means that the people she's talking to are saying it looks bad. I'm pointing out specific areas where I've heard that it looks bad.

The folks I'm talking to are saying the same thing as the folks Laura has been talking to at the Pentagon, they're just talking from a vantage point in Camp Pendleton.

You are all over Freeper today trying to be judge and jury on this.

No, I'm not; I'm just another guy opining on the events of the day. I wasn't aware that there was an official line that must be adhered to at all costs.

An IED exploding when the last vehicle passes IS a provocation. Someone close was watching, and mashed a button or tripped the circuit.

With their "... Killings Unprovoked", Reuters wants weak-
minded readers to think the Marines arbitrarily jumped out
of their vehicles somewhere and began killing civilians.
What did happen, it wasn't that.

> You believe that if an IED goes off, anybody within a

Where did you get that? I have no opinion on the response
to the initial IED and/or any subsequent events, because
we don't have all the facts before us. We do know enough
to call the Reuters headline a lie.

Hey Sink,

Let me understand this. You are accusing US Marines of killing everyone with a square block of where the IED went off? Maybe you better try actually reading the article since you seem to have NO idea about what we are talking about and merely are posting inflammatory statements

The NY Times are in ecstacy.

After beating Abu Gharib to death, it was desperate to find something new to damage Bush, our troops, and the war on terror.

Great. Way to improve morale and recruiting prospects. Put the fear in every soldier that they will be accused of murder cause someone simply accuses them. I'm sure I could be accused of murder if I stood amongst fresh corpses holding a gun and being dressed in enemy fatigues.

"But it doesn't look too good for them at the moment."

Since when does rumor, hearsay and gossip become evidence? Have NOT even had ONE verifiable fact put on the table for us yet. All we have is a bunch of Hate America types screaming things. Accusations are NOT proof.
