RICHMOND (AP) -- The man who killed Virginia's most notorious sex offender will serve 12? years in prison for the slaying. Dewey Keith "Frankie" Venable was sentenced last week for the Jan. 13, 2004, beating and strangulation of his cellmate, Richard Alvin Ausley, who was 64. Venable, 26, had been molested as a child and said he had warned a corrections officer not to put him in the same cell as Ausley at Sussex I State Prison, one of Virginia's most secure correctional facilities. Ausley gained notoriety in recent years as the offender who prompted a Virginia law that allows the indefinite confinement of violent sexual predators for treatment once their prison terms are finished. His actions in 1973, however, seared his name in the memories of many Virginians. That year he abducted a 13-year-old Portsmouth boy, chained him in an underground box and repeatedly sexually assaulted him. Paul Martin Andrews was that teenager. "I do believe this incident is a sad testimony to how much destruction one sexual predator can leave in his wake," Mr. Andrews told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

I think he should have had his own sentence reduced for his act of public service.

Convicts dont like "child" sex offenders. Sending one to General Population is a death sentence.

IMO, he should get a sentence reduction, for doing society and the US Taxpayer, a huge favor.
To: JZelle
Should have taken 12 years OFF of his sentence

The idiot who ignored this prisoner's plea not to put him in the same cell with that monster, should have to serve the same punishment. What was going on behind the scenes? Were prison officials laughing at the punishment they would inflict on the young man by putting him in the same cell with a sexual predator? So sad.

I'd wager the Portsmouth victim isn't all torn up over the news.
The guy should get doubles in chow not added years.
To: Red Badger
Virginia has no parole. Convicts serve the full sentence.
To: Ciexyz
I suspect the outcome was what was anticipated and desired.
To: robowombat
Then he should be pardoned by the Governor.......

Sex offender like this monster deserve death. His cell mate did the people of VA a great service. That does not excuse his original crimes however. His Cred in the prison however has increased dramatically.

If you wait long enough the child molester will die from old age in prison.
Reread the story. The molester was in prison since 1973. Some death sentence.
Of course if you're in prison long enough, you're bound to run into someone who just plain doesn't like you, no matter what your crime is. But the idea that child molesters are doomed to a quick death, as opposed to, say embezzlers, is a myth.

Myth...I dunno about that.
Dahlmer, molested kids, and ate them, was killed in Prison.
That Priest(can't remember his name) that moleseted kids was killed in prison not too long ago.
Do a quick google search, I think you will find it's less of a myth than you might think. Perhaps on a "per capita" basis it is, but nevertheless, child molesters wind up dead in Prison...cuz their child molesters, not because they didnt have a pack of cigarettes to pay of the local prison gang.
