Meanwhile the Mexican invasion continues unabated with the connivance of federal state and local governments. Of course you wouldn't want the police to crack down on wetbacks. No money in it. Guess it's obvious the government by, for and of the people isn't the taxpaying middle class people whose loot powers the government.
Dr. Williams nails it as usual. Back when I was on the beat, I felt I had more important things to do than worry about who was wearing seat belts. Hell, even aggressive drunk driving enforcement was more defensible than this crap.
More big govm't nanny state BS.
I agree totally. By and large, the police in this country have turned into a huge pathetic joke. They do nothing but harass law abiding citizens in traffic to boost local tax revenues, while REAL criminals are running loose, and invading the country without any real resistance.
Are you an illegal alien? Are you a child molester? If so, then you have no worries. But if you are on your way to or from work and have a cracked tail light on your car, or forgot to put on your seat belt, LOOK OUT! They are coming for YOU! All in the name of "public safety" of course.
I don't know about you, but those commercial bother me.
They can be summarized as: "We're from the government, and we're going to punish you for your own good."
End of argument. People either agree with this statement or disagree with it, either decision has consequences.
Some argue about higher insurance rates while others argue about greater state control over the individual. As for me, I'll take the higher rates if it means individual liberty. So, who owns me, freepers? Am I owned by society or myself?
Also, flick them the bird when you pass them (unclench your middle finger from around the steering wheel).
Just kidding. But seat belt enforcement does amount to state tyranny.
BUMP
We used to have a Constitution that kept these nut-ball busybodies at bay, alas, no longer...
(Denny Crane: "Every one should carry a gun strapped to their waist. We need more - not less guns.")
A few weeks ago, my insurance agent almost died. Her SUV was rearended by a tractor trailer, and she flipped 6 times. Thank the Lord she had a 2006 model with curtain airbags.
The driver of the rig was NOT TICKETED. Imagine her astonishment when she was told, "he was so nice, I didn't ticket him", by the trooper. She then found out troopers are hesitant to ticket truckers, because then, they have to come back to Virginia. So what???
The trucker is not only out of state, he is Canadian.
Click it, or ticket! Try to kill another driver, and we'll let you go if you're an out of state trucker.
I LIKE Walter Williams!
Great post, and a great article. I adore Walter Williams.
Thanks for posting the article.
I wish this man would take RINO John Warner's place as U.S. Senator. A great article and the plain truth of the whole matter. Common sense missing in todays leadership.
Back in the 60's, the do gooders forced the automakers into including seat belts so people had a "choice"... The communists in the state legislatures decided the "choice" was not valid, and this was a nice way to steal money from the citizens for using their power of "choice", by fining them if they made a "choice"....In my opinion, every elected official should have ONE term, and then vote them out.
More rules for the legals. More fishing rules, more traffic rules, more no this and no that rules, more tax rules, more insurance rules. BUT NO RULES FOR THE ILLEGAL! How much of this CR*P are we going take.
