Actually, I've attended three churches since I accepted Christ in 1980. They all gave annual financial reports. They all operated under the paradigm that we SHOULD know how our money is being used.
'Course, none of them was Catholic. They may have different rules.

No. I'm Catholic, and our parish finances are regularly reported to everyone.
I think it varies by diocese and parish.

I'm not saying that the church shouldn't show her the financial records. Only that I don't think they "have" to show them.

I have never been a member of any Catholic Parish which did not have its financials totally wide open ... and I've happend to be visiting a few during the week when they release their annual report.
This is an MSM report ... so I don't know how little of it to believe ... but for a Parish not to release an annual report strikes me as a bit odd.

Let me rephrase one thing: This isn't just an MSM report ... It's the Richmond Slimes-Disgrace, so I don't know how much they're leaving out, distorting, or outright fabricating.

My Catholic parish issues quartery financial reports. Every registered parishoner gets a copy in the email.

When I was Catholic, we received annual financial reports on the state of the parish finances. I even attended a Church in Miami where they would show how much was taken in collections, how much money the parish had in the bank, etc.
I do agree in principle to the idea of laity having more control over the finances within the Church, but this woman chose the wrong venue. I would suggest the blogosphere, as well as standing outside the parish after sunday mass handing out leaflets pushing her cause.

They publish their reports in the bulletin as well.

Could it be that a huge percentage of their budget is for legal fees in molestation cases. I'd want to know also. What does this church have to hide?

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.John 3:19-21

Our Catholic Church presents a financial report each year too!
Hint to this lady -- get involved in a positive way in your parish!
