White House: Haditha details to be public

Rep. John Murtha... has said Marines shot and killed unarmed civilians in a taxi at the scene and went into two homes and shot others.

On Tuesday, [Snow] said President Bush learned of the killings only after a reporter from Time magazine asked questions...

Asked when Bush was first briefed about the events in Haditha, an insurgent stronghold in western Iraq, Snow replied Tuesday: "When a Time reporter first made the call."

According to the attorney for one of three Marine Corps officers relieved of command from a Marine battalion are not targets of investigations into whether their troops killed the civilians or tried to cover it up.

Meanwhile, Lance Cpl. James Crossan of North Bend, Wash., who was injured in the roadside bomb attack in Haditha, told a Seattle television station that some of the Marines might have snapped after seeing one of their own killed in action.

"So, I think they were just blinded by hate ... and they just lost control," Crossan told KING-TV, which aired the interview Tuesday.

The targets... are about a dozen enlisted Marines, according to Hackett, a Marine reservist and Iraqi war veteran who represents Kimber... [Hackett] said the highest ranking among those under investigation is a staff sergeant who led the four-vehicle convoy that was hit by the bomb.

Kimber... was relieved of command last month because his subordinates... used profanity and criticized the performance of Iraqi security services during an interview with Britain's Sky News TV...

...Hackett told The Associated Press by telephone. "He's not under investigation for anything related to what has played out in the press." [snip]

I agree with all of that, but for all we know, there was also evidence of injury from shrapnel. In fact, blood from shrapnel and bullet wounds could have covered the bullet wounds. That is why I am sceptical without an autopsy.

I guess I can see how the initial report came out the way it did, and the final report could come out the way it did without either being false, but autopsies would prove one way or the other.

Thank you for that information. If there really was an atrocity here, there would be no need to embellish, twist, lie or distort.

The information you gave does not help Murtha's case. I will still wait until the final report.

This entire matter makes me ill. Watching the media slaughter these boys and watching/hearing other Americans speak against them before the investigation is complete and the the information comes out deeply saddens me. There's a Fifth Column in this country undermining our culture, our traditions, our safety and our sovereignty.

After reading my post again I apologize. I did not mean to insinuate that it was you who was calling Murtha a war hero. It's the Nancy Pelosi's etc., who always add the embellishment to give him a little more prestige than he rightfully deserves, and of course he laps it up because he's not only a parrot/puppet who just repeats what he's been told to say,he's also just like kerry.....a phony.

It the opinion of several of us here that in the coming months there will be an announcement out of the Murtha camp that he is retiring because of advanced Alzheimer's.
He's certainly not living in this time and age, his mind is stuck in the 60's and Vietnam.

In fact The Marines often have elaborate ceremonies known as "Change of Commands" during which the former Commander is relieved by the person taking his place.

All services have such ceremonies.
