A former Marine who police say killed a woman that attacked him during a gang robbery attempt told reporters Tuesday he acted only to save his life.
"My first instinct was to run," said former Cpl. Thomas Autry, 36. "Those kids were younger than me. They caught me and cornered me. It was about life preservation."
"I'm sorry this whole thing happened. I hate this world has gotten to the point where it is predatory," said a shaken Autry.
The pack of would-be robbers, including a 17-year-old woman, might have mistaken the tall, thin, waiter for an easy mark, said police. But, the bandits picked the wrong victim, said Atlanta police homicide Detective Danny Stephens. The former Marine, cornered by his pursuers on Penn Avenue at 4th Street, fought back with a pocket knife in a deadly melee that left the young woman dead and a man in his late teens seriously injured at a hospital.

OK, this is the fifth posting of this story--we get it, OK?
I agree and some people should learn not to pick on people because of what may happen to them. God Bless this Marine.
"When told that many in the metro area consider him a hero for his actions, Autry disagreed."
That is the sign of a TRUE hero, whether he knows it or (most likely) not.
Compare and contrast: Sen. John "I'm a HERO who served in VIET NAM" Kerry /spit
He did a fine job....
Too bad our "Judicial System" has allowed these bastards to remain on the street --- long past their eternal dirt nap time...
Semper Fi
The article said that the female attacker wasn't pregnant, according to the autopsy results.
I didn't see it with the AJC title nor selected keywords.
Basically, it's Bush's fault. If they didn't have Marines, he'd have been a good effete victim, like the Democrats want.
Not to mention the fact that many of us haven't been here all day long watching the threads as they are posted.
You are absolutely correct--just another "slur."
I'll tell you something else, it will only get worse.
Don't know how old you are, but form the mid 70's thru--at least--the 80's, anytime a Vietnam Vet did anything that was illegal, 90% of the time, the story reported that: "Vietnam Vet Rapes Teen;" "Vietnam Vet Robs Bank;" Vietnam Vet Caught Dealing Drugs," etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum.
At least this guy did something good.
Thanks to Kerry, his ilk and the MSM, we were so stigmatized and scorned, considered ALL unstable and worse; coupled with this type of news reporting, that many of us (myself included, when after being graduated cum laude and realizing because of my service in Nam, I could not so much as get a job interview) removed any mention of our service in Nam from our resumes (and right away had 6 interviews and 2 job offers) and began to not let anyone know we had served our country honorably in Vietnam.
"Grabbing the knife from his backpack, Autry managed to kick the shotgun from the man's hands and stabbed the woman in the chest"
RIGHT ON!
this may have actually been Chuck Norris.
I didn't see it. I was at work.
"OK"?
How many copies of the same story do you need to read?
Yeah, mebbe..... LOL!
When I lived in Atlanta, I would occasionally buy an AJC - so that I would something to put under my car when I changed my oil.
Not very good as toilet paper, but it is okay for catching dripping oil - especially the Sunday edition.
Just pick up the papers when you are done, and throw them away...
After all, the paper is just trash - why not use it to keep oil off the pavement/streets. A trashy paper has some use - provided you think of throwing it away...
Of course, they do cut down trees to produce it... So there is a waste... Seems the environmentalists should start boycotting papers like the AJC, WaPo, NY Slimes, etc...
Again? He's been whacking those robbers all day.
This is the latest update which includes the information from the Fulton Co. Medical Examiner's Office that the woman wasn't pregnant--big news.
