BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The Iraqi government said Tuesday it has captured a key terror suspect who allegedly confessed to hundreds of beheadings. Ahmed Hussein Dabash Samir al-Batawi was arrested by a terrorist combat unit on Monday in Baghdad, according to the prime minister's office.

The unit also seized documents, cell phones and computers that contained the names and addresses of other wanted terrorists and information on Islamic extremist groups, the government said in a statement.

"Al-Batawi is considered at the top of the terrorist list," the statement said, adding he had "committed the ugliest crimes against innocent civilians especially in Hurriyah neighborhood that witnessed many massacres."

The government said al-Batawi confessed under questioning that he beheaded hundreds of Iraqis in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces.

"Another top "Zarqawi Aide?"
One does seem to be caught every other week. How many aides/drivers does one man need?

***

No, actually every other week, it's a top Bin Laden aide. :)

Remember that link I sent you this AM....I found this tidbit in another article that confirms that link I sent you.

Separately, the Iraqi government said it had captured a key terror suspect who had confessed to hundreds of beheadings, and police said three members of al-Qaida in Iraq had been killed during clashes south of Baghdad last week.

Good to see the Iraqi forces getting some wins.

They're the ones who need to establish the relationships w/ the public and win this thing anyway.

Did it ever occur to you that by announcing the capture of the computer and cell phone(s) the suspects and contacts will provide more people?

You have to assume that all the names gleaned from the computer and cell phone are ALREADY under surveillance.

Thank you. I have been looking for an appropriate description for scum like that and you have it. "Excremist" is a perfect, most descriptive word.

"Nah, a dull knife would be more appropriate."
Unimaginative. Suspend him on meat hook by a rib, and let him gently swing like a pendulum above a small fire. On the hour there could be a cuckoo sound.

Sometimes the news media uses absolutely no common sense at all.

A little understated, don't ya think?

You are welcome. Why shouldn't the FR be enriching the language beyond "hugh" and "series"?

Please lets not turn this into another joke thread..I'm to the point I won't post these articles anymore.

I find it amazing how something like this is simply dismissed by so many. I to tire of getting endless second in command folks but indeed this is yet another success in the war on terrorism.

This is further evidence of progress on a short but dweet directive given by our president. "ONE BY ONE" he said and this among others demonstrates he is doing what he said he would to to fight this war.

I long for the capture of some big boys but in the mean time the more of these captures the better! W told us one by one and he never stated the order in which they would be hunted or captured or killed.

You have to assume that all the names gleaned from the computer and cell phone are ALREADY under surveillance.

I wouldn't assume any such thing. Depending on the size of the database including the names, it could provide more leads which will now be missed because someone published this. I'm sure many of the people will need to be located and their contacts determined by long-term surveillance. It also has the potential result of compromising sources. I still don't understand any purpose in putting this sort of information out to the public.

I'm open to hearing one good reason beyond a public feel-good measure. I can't think of one.
