Dear Friend,
Stand up to the attacks! Contribute today!
I write to you with an urgent plea that I believe will be the difference between victory and defeat for Jim Webb and for Virginia on June 13.
It is a plea for money. The truth is, we need to raise $100,000 in the next seven days or Jim will not have enough funds to defeat the brutal, cynical, negative attacks of lobbyist Harris Miller.
Last week, Harris Miller spent $100,000 to run ads attacking Jim. We have all seen the lies, the distortions, the misrepresentations of Harris Miller. It is sad really. In all my 28 years of politics, I have seen nothing even remotely close to these attacks in a Democratic primary.
But without the funds to counter this lobbyist's dirty tricks, the tricks may succeed.
That is why we are launching a program called "The 1,000 Friends Campaign." It is a program in which we are asking you, one of Jim's most dedicated supporters, to make a contribution of to the campaign in the next seven days.
Help us counter Harris Miller's lobbyist dollars with the truth. Contribute to "The 1,000 Friends Campaign" today!

Any contribution from you in the amount of $100 or more received in the next seven calendar days will be dedicated to this program. All contributors during this period will be singled out, by name, at our election-eve rally at our Arlington headquarters.
I am writing a check, my wife Brenda is writing a check and our 16 year old daughter, Alex, is writing a check as well.
Too much is at stake. We have the once in a lifetime chance to change the course of history here in Virginia and frankly in America by electing this special public figure to the US Senate. And it is not just me or our campaign saying it. Jim has the endorsements of dozens of state and national leaders -- Harris Miller scoffs at many of the biggest names, but the truth is, he scoffs because he could never get them. My old boss, Mark Warner called Jim a great leader and a great Virginia Democrat, and Time Magazine called Jim, "George Allen's worst nightmare." No, the people in the know, know that Jim is a Democrat we can be proud of, and they know Jim is a Democrat who can win. These same state and national leaders are quickly tiring of Harris Miller's vicious scorched earth campaign -- and I know personally that many are telling him so privately. But he just doesn't seem to want to listen or to care. It is sad because Harris Miller is becoming to the 2006 US Senate race what Jerry Kilgore became to the 2005 governor's race -- nothing but negative attacks and mischaracterizations -- but this time it threatens to split our party, not unify it.
Because Harris Miller doesn't care, we may be sidelined by the scurrilous attacks of a man who parades himself as a Democrat while attacking Jim, even though Miller's own record is riddled with hypocrisy and smoke and mirrors. "Good Democrats" do not sell out the American worker and chastise America's working men and women and organized labor as Miller has done repeatedly during his lifetime as a corporate lobbyist. "Good Democrats" do not proudly proclaim their support for the narrow-minded, cynical NAACP-opposed John Ashcroft to be Attorney General as Harris Miller did in writing! "Good Democrats" do not publicly and in writing proudly support George W. Bush's tax cuts for the greedy, and "good Democrats" do not write personal checks to conservative Republicans and then hide behind the thin and lobbyist-like veneer of an excuse that "my company made me do it."
Yet, Harris Miller is launching vicious attack after vicious attack. That is what we are up against. We may not have Harris Miller's lobbyist money to run scurrilous ads and send false mail and phone messages into our homes. And we do not have a candidate who would stoop to such a low level.
But we do have you.
Please contribute today. Become one of the 1,000 Friends and contribute at least $100 today.

This campaign and this party are better than what Harris Miller is doing. But no one may know it if you don't once again stand up for Jim as you have done so often in this campaign.
Thanks in advance and I hope to see you at our election-eve rally in Arlington and at our Victory Party on June 13.
Sincerely,
Steve Jarding
Politics is a dirty business.
How come all pols refer to themselves by their given names during the campaign, but woe unto ye who call them that name after they get elected.
I am astonished that Jim Webb is running as a Democrat.
It's good for the country. More Dems like Webb would give us a choice.
Me too.
Got a call at home for the Webb campaign last week. I hung up.
I don't care if he did wore the uniform, he's despicable.
I hope he wins the primary so Allen can kick his ash in the general. He's another murtha/garwood Marine.
