CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., May 29 In this "company town" where everything and everyone caters to the well-being of the Marine Corps, there is no shortage of people, both military and civilian, who are willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the troops accused of unjustified killings last November in Haditha, Iraq.
Relatives and neighbors gathered near the shrouded bodies of civilians said to have been killed by marines in Haditha, Iraq, in November.

"Any attempt to inject any sort of caution about this story into a discussion on FR will be met with being labeled a Murtha-sympathizer, a sellout, a MSM shill, or having your own patriotism challenged."
Attempts to inject any sort of caution in defense of our troops about this story into a discussion on FR is met with arguments by some FReepers that they're guilty until proven innocent.
My thoughts 'zactly. If that's what he thinks of Marines, he doesn't know any Marines.
O'Reilly has called for "No more troops on the ground in arab countries that hate us".
What brought that on? Was it this Haditha event?
He's says the Taliban are waiting until we leave and doubts the existing government will ever be strong enough to defend themselves.
I think you need to fight terror with terror of your own. That's the only thing Middle Eastern men understand truly.
I would hope our Marines are given full authority to prosecute this war of terror the way they feel necessary to win. But also to get home safely.
If that means cleaning every square foot within 100 yards of the source of gunfire so be it.
Get the damned press out of the war zone and let our soldiers win.
As a friend said when he came back after the invasion: "We can civilize them or destroy them. The second option is always on the table."
Count me as one who is willing to give them the benefit of doubt.
Ahhh yes, but do WE address it, do WE try it, do WE prosecute it, BEFORE WE identify it?
And I think this is not good. And I'm hearing this from people in the military who know. Put your head in the sand if you wish.
You said:
WE identify it, WE prosecute it, WE try it, and WE address it.
I asked:
but do WE address it, do WE try it, do WE prosecute it, BEFORE WE identify it?
The point being, these Marines have been identified, charged, tried, judged, found guilty and ready for execution before the investigation has been completed or any charges filed, while being trumpted around the world. They are guilty in the world of "public opinion" prosecuted by the ENEMEDIA and the likes of Murtha!
INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty .......... What a concept!!
I'm hearing this from people in the military who know.
Gee, are the the same "people in the know" that Murtha is getting his info from?
For your reading pleasure:
What Murtha says is being played and replayed endlessly in the local media in both Malaysia and Indonesia.
What Sen. Murtha alleges has set off a frenzy of extrapolation in the local media and among the citizens here who are now seeing this as the desperate acts of US Marines who have been losing the war up to now.
The fire is starting to burn out of control - many of the sympathizers here are salivating seeing this as the proverbial "nail in the coffin" of America's military involvment in Iraq.
Another Mai Lai is what it is being called.

All the more reason to be in front of this and not ignore it.
