An ex-Marine pulled out a pocket knife after five people, including a young girl, allegedly tried to rob him late Monday evening in Midtown. That girl died.

Another one of the alleged assailants is in critical condition.

Investigators are calling the case one of self-defense. They say no charges will be filed against the victim in the case.

I wonder who the ex Marine is? We should all buy him several beers as thanks.

Thomas Autry

The suspects eventually caught up with Autry. But Autry, who managed to pull a knife out of his backpack, kicked the shotgun out of one of the attacker's hands. He then stabbed a teenage girl who jumped on him and a man who attacked him.

The suspects ran back to their car and drove off.

Police found them later at a hospital, where the teenage girl, who was pregnant, was pronounced dead. Another man was in critical condition, Stephens said.

Sounds like are boys did not have enough armament, and there weren't enough of him.

Purely a quagmire, if you ask me.

Atlanta is no place to be after dark.

It's not a place I will be unless I'm carrying my pocket protector. I drive through downtown at night occasionally when I need to, but the doors are locked and there is always a shiny stainless steel protective device on the seat beside me.

I love this story of the Marine kicking tail on 5 attackers. It reminds me of an incident that occurred when I was living in the Tampa Bay area. An airman from McDill AFB was driving home from the base late at night and when he stopped at a light 2 or 3 young punks, don't remember for sure, jerked his car door open and attacked him with knives and iron pipes. The funny part is that he happened to be one of the McDill airmen who had gone through extensive personal combat training to qualify for some special force type assignment. He almost killed the attackers with his bare hands and all of them were hospitalized in serious condition.

The sad and utterly outrageous part of the story is that the Tampa paper reported that a prosecutor was actually considering charging him with something because he was specially trained in personal combat and had used excessive force in defending himself against his teenage assailants, who btw were all fully grown young men. I don't think anything ever came of that, but just the idea that it was even considered by a government official is enough to disgust a person with our prosecutorial system. (Is prosecutorial a word? If not it should be)

The Marine is being held without bond for a hate crime.

This was Atlanta, after all.

It is unconscionable that a man that protects himself from an attack by street thugs could be prosecuted. I remember when Bernard Getz (spelling?) shot those thugs on the NY subway, and he was prosecuted. They got him on a gun charge in the end.

If it had happened here, (NYC) the Marine would have been charged with illegal possession of a weapon, at least one count of assault, and 1 count of manslaughter.
Then the Mayor would go on the radio, and say that it's only common sense that we put another 5 laws in place to keep sharp objects out of the hands of our youth by making anything other than butter knives illegal.

(We would need 5 laws because it would also be required that restaurants now cut all of our food for us since we will no longer have knives to do it ourselves. Then we would need inspectors, both for the food and the butter knives. The final law would be to give the mayor discretionary funding authority for the new plan.)

Then the New York Times would come out with an editorial calling him a ruthless vigilante.

There's no such thing as an ex-Marine.

I think there is at least one and he's in congress!

Now if the ex-Marine was allow to have a CCW permit, the fight would be over even faster and a higher KIA for the unfriendlies.
