Only hours after Iraqi civilians were killed, a second team of Marines was sent in to take the victims' bodies to a local morgue.
Lance Corp. Ryan Briones was among the Marines sent in to recover the bodies, and he told the Los Angeles Times he is still haunted by what he saw, including a young girl who was shot in the head.
"[The victims] ranged from little babies to adult males and females," Briones told the newspaper. "I can still smell the blood."
Briones says he and another Marine were told to photograph the bodies. Military officials say those photos which they say show people shot at close range in the head and chest clearly contradict initial reports that the civilians were killed by a roadside bomb.

Good night all. On this Memorial Day, I thank each and every soldier and Marine for their service and dedication in something greater than themselves.
This is why these stories about our troops are very upsetting.....we have no idea what happened, yet there are those that are too eager to condemn them....
This was calculated. If there were insurgents present, is it not curious that not a single Marine lost his life or was wounded other than the Marine killed by the IED?
I'm surprised at you, sink! I never would have thought you would take this POV!!!
WE don't KNOW what happened, and our guys deserve the benefit of the doubt at the very least!
According to the Lame Stream press the boys at Duke are guilty too. I will wait and see before I condemn anyone in the Military. I ain't worthy to shine their boots.
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
Yep. Band of Brothers was on The History Channel all weekend. One of the salient incidents in the series is where Speirs gives the unarmed German prisoners smokes, and then you hear a Thompson go off...
The objective is to win this war with a minimum of casualties on both sides. If the table saw catches some civilians, then it does. The table saw caught civilians at the top of the World Trade Center, back in September 2001.
I don't hear the press beating the drums about the watermelon splatting noises at the bases of the towers, do you, sinkspur?
Briones said he took pictures of at least 15 bodies before his camera batteries died. He said he then helped other Marines remove the bodies and place them in body bags. He said his worst moment, and one that haunts him to this day, was picking up the body of a young girl who was shot in the head.
"I held her out like this," he said, demonstrating with his arms extended, "but her head was bobbing up and down and the insides fell on my legs."

Great post.
But the next time you open a package of Hamburger, smell the Styrofoam bottom, every time I do, it reminds me of some of the nasty wrecks I have fixed over the past 3 decades
As I said in another thread, his ordeal was out of Kafka. He handled his ordeal with class and dignity and is a tribute to the Corps. I hope it wasn't they who hung him out to dry. I can only believe that it was lawyers and I will not voice my opinion regarding them here.
No, he was a witness to dead bodies after the fact. And considering the hit-pieces that the media has been caught perpetrating, he's gotta be the biggest idiot alive to even be talking to the press. The only military that should be talking to the press is the public affairs office.
Having just read that article YOU posted the link to...
I am getting more confused..were all of these Marines together when the IED went off, killing Briones' friend, but only half of them went in and supposedly killed all of the people???
What was Briones and this other guy doing during all of this??
And, they were just told to get the bodies???
The more I read about this, them more questions I have.
Did you read the article on the link at post #62?
I'm supposed to be impressed because ABC paid some bootcamper, who shouldn't be talking anyway, to talk about what he saw after the fact? And lord only knows how those jackals twisted what he said.
Time to wallow in guilt, self-doubt, and to question whether or not your country is worth defending. On Memorial Day. Of course.
In WWII we were willing to firebomb cities and drop nuclear weapons in order to win the war.
It would be wise to emphasize the locals complicity in the attack on the Marines. That because of their complicity death sentences will not be considered if soldiers are charged.
One thing is certain though the MSM will not let this alone for the UCMJ to handle with politician's wanting to make use of it for get, Bush at any cost.
momma seems to be doing a whole lot of talking to the press, according to the article.....

And suppose that this really happened then what? Should we withdraw from Iraq and let the terrorist declare victory over us all because of this one incident. That is what liberals and their media want to take full advantage of here. As freeper Cursader mentioned we holding our troops to impossible standards, it is a damn war!
I want to be on the jury of these Marines, cause I know how I will vote
