Last week Savage mentioned listening to the radio while driving his car and noting how network news outlets broadcast enemy propaganda. Today is Memorial Day and ABC news is having a "special" called "Triumph and Inspiration" about the US military. The entire program has been nothing but soldiers detailing horrific battlefield injuries, rehabilitation, and interviews with the doctors that sew them up. During World War II it was a common tactic on both sides to drop leaflets containing graphic descriptions of battlefield injuries on enemy troops to demoralize them. Radio broadcasters such as Tokyo Rose (Eva Toguri) and Axis Sally (Mildred Gillars) played on soldier emotions by warning them of the dangers of battle and the security of their loved ones back home. Precisely the same type of content as todays ABC radio news special. The only thing missing was a strong japanese accent and some Benny Goodman.

Network news is about creating drama in our living rooms, just to get our attention, sell advertising...Savage is completely right, but he is vastly outnumbered by money crunchers.
