I'm afraid that the now toss-up between Angelides and Westly will inflate Democratic turnout and tip the race for Busby.

The district can't be "heavily Republican" if a DemocRAT is about to get elected. A true Republican would NEVER vote for a DemocRAT. Now RINOS on the other hand....

"This is a district we should never lose," he says. "It's the stink of Cunningham, and the Bush problem."

More likely, it's the stink of a liberal Republican being pushed in a conservative district. His anti-gun, pro-GLBT, pro-abortion, soft-on-taxes stances hardly motivate conservatives. The saving grace is his position on immigration.

We have house guests from this district that are convinced the Bilbray will pull out a narrow victory. My wife and I will be doing some phone work this week for Bilbray.

If the GOP loses the special in the 50th, the party is probably looking at a loss of 40 seats and the House. The Senate is less certain because so few Senators are running and the corrupt Congress has made it as hard as possible for incumbents to be dislodged from their "entitled" positions.

If they manage to squeak out the 50th they might only be looking at losing 20 seats.

It's ironic, but what's killing fundraising and the volunteer base is Bush's idea that criminal-alien amnesty has to be the top legislative priority, and general disaffection with Congressional corruption as evidenced by pork and Cunningham-Jefferson-Hastert-etc. That's why the Committee has to put in so much money, because the usual small local donors have dried up.

And the result of this is probably going to be the loss mostly of conservative seats... the very guys who fought against this madness.

I see it coming but can't very well change it. The party lords are petulantly demanding that the electorate stop expecting responsible government, get back in harness and keep pulling the beer wagon. Someone needs to spin Denny Hastert up on where the public is on "the divine right of kings." He's pathetically out of touch.

But that's what happens when you're tied up all day wrapping bribe money in tinfoil, or defending those who are.

The GOP deserves to lose, especially RINOs like Bilbray.

This is a "Bellwhether" of one thing only: that folks don't like having crooks in Congress.

No you dimwit idiots in the MSM.

The real problem is the sellout by RINO's and Shamnesty.

How in the hell could a so called brilliant Republican campaign leaderhsip have allowed themselves to be painted into a corner by a bunch of ragtag extremist Democrats.

If this race is lost it won't be because Bilbray was a bad candidate, it will be because the arrogant Republican leadership has turned it's back on the base.

Our leadership from Carl Rove to Bill (Frist and Grits will give you the Sh!ts) Frist has capitulated to the wishes of an elitists arrogant minority and are now ready to endanger this country by reaping what they have sown.

Good seeds planted in bad soil will usually produce a good crop of worthless weeds.

Thanks to arrogant RINO Senators John McCain, Lindsay Graham and Specter for all that you did to split the party, oops shatter our trust in doing the right thing.

It's tough electing a competent Congress when the voter's number one question is, "What's in it for ME if I vote for you?"

I believe the American people should find their own candidates and elect them. These crooks are never going to change. After we elect our own; we can set about charging and convicting these crooks.

Well .. the real point is .. the CA GOP chose a RINO to run for the position - instead of choosing from several good and well-known strong conservatives.

If the GOP loses the 50th seat - it has done it to itself.

Being that the district is near the border I would think Bilbray would make immigration the issue.

Typical RNC - throw in the towel rather than put up a fight. They're the France of politics.

For anyone interested, the local newspaper, the North County Times, endorsed Bilbray, so that should help:
