ARIZONANS START WALLING OFF BORDER (slim chance Congress will legalize invaders)
NY POST ^ | May 29, 2006 | DEBORAH ORIN Washington Bureau Chief

Posted on 05/29/2006 5:20:12 AM PDT by Liz

Volunteers began building a reinforced metal and barbed-wire fence along private land on the Mexican border as lawmakers debated how to stop the flood of illegal aliens.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps - says it intends to start by building 26 miles of fence ......(to) stop illegal immigrants and drug runners.......

Meanwhile, chances seem slim that Congress will pass a bill this year legalizing millions of illegal aliens, since Democrats as well as Republicans in tough House races oppose what they see as amnesty.

"The words 'path to citizenship' is a buzzword for amnesty. We ought to be honest - it is amnesty," House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner told NBC's "Meet the Press."

The Minutemen are planning to build a multilayer barrier 40 to 50 yards wide.....they've raised $380,000 for border fences and hope to keep the cost as low as $150 per mile thanks to volunteer workers and heavy-equipment operators.

Landmine signs in Spanish would be cheaper.

380,000 divided by 150 gives 2533 mi., more than the border length.I'd guess that $150/mi is a little low.

I'm really starting to like this guy.

why should people who have to raise private funds and volunteer time and energy to perform a statutory obligation of their government pay same government taxes...?

what, are we paying them to sit in the dc and look pretty on cspan...?

i see no connection between the government and the people today, other than the fact that they will kill you if you do not give them a third of your income.

i think we have been here before.

Wouldn't work. One of my (legal) Mexican friends at work tells me that most of the illegals can't read.

Luke,

Indeed, Sensenbrenner is a good man doing something, we need him to replace Hastert.

I plan to call or contact him this week and thank him.

The only good thing I can say about Frist at the moment is maybe he is cagey at a fox. Did he let the bill go through to truly expose all the Rinos? Perhaps, we know who they all are now and opponents can be recruited to run against them in the next few election cycles.

Frist isn't that smart. He's on TV looking as clueless as the rest of them on immigration. He voted for the stupid thing. You give him too much credit.

It may be just a tad more complicated than that, but you are right on target.

An honest politician? How refreshing.

Don't sell the guys short yet.
I can't go down and help them
because of my age but they have
my second contribution for the
wall in the mail...and I'm sure
in Hell not the only American
responding to their latest call
for more pledges. I'm going to
take great pride in seeing my
mile section go up. And I have
relatives in Scottsdale who will
send me pictures eventually.

Volunteers began building a reinforced metal and barbed-wire fence along private land on the Mexican border over the weekend as lawmakers debated how to stop the flood of illegal aliens.

Exactly how America was and continues to be built!

The American people DO while lawmakers flap their gums and place obstacles in the way!

And what are the Minutemen going to do about the other half of the "invaders" that come across "legally" and over stay their visas, like many of the 9/11 attackers?

The border is only one problem out of many.

IMO, Frist is neither cagey nor stupid.

He IS a Coward, an appeaser and a weak Majority Leader.

Sessions, I believe it was, stated some Republicans knew the bill was wrong but voted for it under assumption the House would kill it. I think Frist was one of them. It explains McConnell as well, who is usually on the right side of most issues. Infact, the only Leader in the Senate to oppose it was Santorum, and he's running in a tough relection bid in a Liberal state. Quite telling this isn't only a conservative issue as some would have us believe.

If left to his own devices Frist would probably be categorized as in favor of the Kyl/Cornyn legislation. Neither all enforcement, but not anywhere near as bad as the montrosity Kennedy/McCain crafted either.

End result is the same though, it smoked out a few RINO's even if that wasn't the intent. Don't trust everyone on the enforcement list though. Hutchinson is weak, but up for re-election. And didn't Lott join in? Conveniently up for election as well. I wouldn't trust either one of them if not up for election this year.

I'm not selling them short, just pointing out that there may be a reporting problem here. The full nine yards, Isreali type fence is more like $150/foot. The Minutemen are doing the right thing and deserve all the support they can get.

Who needs to read? Make a sign with a person being blown to pieces with one of those red circle/lines figures on top of it. Wouldn't take much know how to figure that out. ;)

Sadly, your friend is right. We are importing millions of poor illiterates. Some barely speak Spanish having been raised in Indian (indios? native Mexicans? indigenous? whatever is pc) communities. The drop-out rates of their kids in our schools (such as they are) is at least 50 percent. They clearly aren't going to do much for this country in the high tech contests with China and India.

I've got Cantwell/Osama lovin' Patty and the fradulent Governor.

You don't need to apologize to me. LOL

Besides, he's leaving and you all have a chance to put a good one in. Just make sure whoever it is understands who "brung" them to the office before the election and that Sessions is the Senator they should model themselves after. Good luck.
