Fox News Watch/NewsBusters ping to Today show list.
Gabler never misses an opportunity to bash Bush. Newswatch is not a debate show. I can't stand him.
Neal Gabler is a non-entity.
Kneel Gobbler.
That's what I call him.
Gosh, I'm sorry I missed that! I've given up on watching "News Watch" because it's just another means for spouting liberal talking points. Kudos to Lowry, and rotten onions to Thomas, who usually allows Gabler (Gobbler?) to rant on--either unchallenged, or just mildly so.
Gabler was better off reviewing movies (with Michael Medved, oddly enough). At least there his fantasy life doesn't harm anyone.
bookmkPing ,. ... and thanks
I wonder what Gabler thinks about Dr. Eastman of the Claremont Institute testifying before the House Intel Committee yesterday and telling them the media can be prosecuted for publishing classified information?

I thought the "gentlemen's agreement" was that you don't aim to expose national security secrets in order to damage a war effort, especially not when the stakes are winner take all.
Two quick comments, probably unrelated, but they should serve as food for thought;
a) Republican democracy cannot exist without a free, independant press. Gabler does have an argument that the White House prosecuting leaks is threat to the premise of a independant press. He errs when he makes the argument that the free and independant press is an end unto itself, and as such, should have no restraints put upon it at all. It's been said before, and apparently needs to be restated, the Constitution (in this case, the First Amendment) is not a suicide pact. The government does not have a right to keep it's operations a secret, per se, but often needs to in order to serve the common good of all.
Gabler, in this regard, is not arguing for the common good of all, but for the good of a select few (i.e. the press).
b) While the free and independant press is a necssary and valuable adjunct to the maintenance of republican democracy, it is not the Alpha and Omega that many within it's ranks believe it is, particularly in a day and age where technology has rendered the old school journalism of newspapers and network nes obsolete. People have more options when it comes to informing (and disinforming) themselves, and this is no longer the private domain of the J-school clique.. Their (the presses) "professional" snobbery very often leads them to believe that only THEY have the right (and ability) to steer public opinion or that only THEY can serve as censors with regards to what is presented to the public and what is not. The press in this country is just as guilty of that which it now accuses an unpopular (to the press) government of being: unprincipled censors who do not have the best interests of the American nation at heart.
It was not so much Lowry putting Gabler in his place as it was Lowry restating what should have been obvious to anyone with the same sense God gave to an Irish Setter (which, I guess, excludes Gabler).
Saw it, loved it.
I saw that part of the show. It is very difficult to sit through the whole of this show. Pretty bad, beginning with the host. Lowry was certainly an improvement over the pathetic Cal Thomas who even makes Gabler seem likable. Pinkerton is ok much of the time and Jane is liberal but not obnoxious like Cal Thomas and Gabler.
I saw it. Personally, I don't think he landed a punch on Gabler. Gabler just rattles on no matter what.
This show would be unwatchable without TiVo. . . we
skip Gabler. Pinkerton is still a favorite but I find the host more and more in love with himself. . . I don't don't think he's as amusing as he thinks himself!
Lowry seems to be growing less shy. He's always been brilliant and his writing is excellent but he used to appear very quiet. No more and good for him!
Lowry is one of the few on Fox News who is booked to offer a conservative point of view and does. I wish he would replace both Barnes and Kristol.
